Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic, patient/service focused pharmacist to join our aseptic team.

Based within our (MHRA) licensed manufacturing unit the post-holder will be expected to participate in the provision of all services offered, including in and outpatient chemotherapy, adult nutrition and a CIVAS service.

Development opportunities would be provided according to interest both within operational management in aseptic/technical services.

Main duties of the job

- To deliver, as part of a team, a comprehensive, safe and cost-effective 
pharmaceutical service to the Trust and its patients.
- On a daily basis, manage the provision of aseptically prepared medications and licensed manufacture of aseptic preparations, including their supply to internal and external customers.
- To participate and assist in the development of a clinically orientated pharmacy service linked to specialist areas. 
- Perform the professional role of a registered pharmacist within the aseptic manufacturing unit, which includes advice, supervision, co operation, problem solving, and training and support of colleagues.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Vocational Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent.
  • Pre-registration training and experience, meeting the GPhC examination requirements
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable criteria
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy and/or equivalent
  • PTQA/technical qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a qualified pharmacist within a range of clinical areas / evidence of undertaking a role at rotational grade pharmacist level.
  • Structured experience in Pharmacy manufacturing and dispensing services.
  • Evidence of relevant and on-going personal CPD.
Desirable criteria
  • Published pharmaceutical research in a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Acute/ tertiary Hospital experience.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Up-to-date knowledge of current NHS policies, processes and structures including Connecting for Health.
Desirable criteria
  • Commitment to and demonstration of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Teaching/training/mentoring skills.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good communication and negotiation skills with other professionals, patients and carers, including verbal, written and electronic.
  • Good interpersonal skills, able to work with all grades of staff.
  • Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise own workload.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and meet set targets.
  • Ability to perform calculations to a high degree of accuracy.
  • Computer literacy
  • Knowledge of legal requirements associated with the provision of Aseptically dispensed and manufactured ‘specials’
