Job overview

This is an exciting post to work in education and training  whilst also linking your clinical role with the medical speciality respiratory. You will need to be an enthusiastic pharmacist who is keen to educate and train your rotational and trainee pharmacists. 

LUHFT employs over 120 pharmacists across 3 sites providing clinical pharmacy services to all major specialties. This post is based on the Aintree site of the Trust. 

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and forward thinking clinical pharmacist to work as a team and help support our education and training lead pharmacist in delivering the highest care possible. 

We have a fully integrated electronic prescribing system along with unique in-house systems to help you deliver excellent clinical care to your patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and delivery of a high quality, proactive and patient focused clinical pharmacy service to the directorate of respiratory medicine.

Main duties of the job

Assist the Lead Clinical  Pharmacist -Education and Training in the development of our current and future pharmacists and provide medicines management within the  directorate of Respiratory Medicine.

To provide a safe and effective advanced clinical pharmacy service to the  directorate of respiratory medicine.

Assist the Lead Clinical  Pharmacist -Education and Training in providing clinical training and supervision, relevant to the  Pharmacy department

Provide non-medical prescribing services to our  respiratory patients.

Identify the clinical and economic impact of medicines use, develop and implement clinical guidelines, monitor drug expenditure and support the area to meet their clinical and financial targets.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Help support the Lead Clinical  Pharmacist -Education and Training in delivering the high level training to our pharmacy department supporting where necessary. 

To provide an advanced clinical service to the  directorate of respiratory medicine within the division of medicine n accordance with professional, departmental and Trust policies.

Provide highly specialist pharmaceutical information to medical and nursing staff and patients within the Directorate and to General Practitioners and other staff within the Trust where appropriate.

To act as an independent prescriber in accordance with the Trust's Non-Medical Prescribers policies and guidelines (once registered as a non-medical prescriber)

Participate in Consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings relevant to the designated wards and or directorate,

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Vocational Masters degree in pharmacy.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent documented experience
Desirable criteria
  • MRPharmS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post diploma clinical experience at specialist clinical pharmacist level
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuing professional development / education and training.
  • Previous experience of providing education and training within pharmacy
  • Experience of coaching/mentoring pharmacy staff
Desirable criteria
  • Tutor for postgraduate qualifications or pre-registration pharmacist tutor

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Well-developed knowledge of education and training in pharmacy
  • Well-developed knowledge of trainee pharmacist development/training
  • Good presentation skills
Desirable criteria
  • Extensive knowledge of pharmacy audit
  • Awareness of the requirements of pre-registration pharmacy technicians and apprentices
