An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 highly motivated forward thinking advanced clinical pharmacists to join us at LUHFT working across our hospital sites with clinical teams to drive value in medicines.

The posts will create an opportunity for enthusiastic pharmacists to learn about medicines value with our team of experts and help create efficiencies within the health economy supporting  high cost drug switches to biosimilars within specialist clinical teams.
 
 

 

Main duties of the job

Assist the Clinical Divisional Lead Pharmacists and Medicines Value Team for the development of pharmacy services and medicines management within the directorate.

Support the national agenda for switching patients to new and upcoming biosimilars. 

To provide a safe and effective advanced clinical pharmacy service to the directorate.

Assist the Divisional Lead Pharmacist in providing clinical training and supervision, relevant to the directorate, for other departmental staff.

Provide non-medical prescribing services to our patients.

Identify the clinical and economic impact of medicines use, develop and implement clinical guidelines, monitor drug expenditure and support the area to meet their clinical and financial targets.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Assist the Divisional Lead Pharmacists and Medicines Value Team in the development of pharmacy services and medicines management within the directorate.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MPharm or equivalent
  • Post graduate clinical qualification
  • Member of the GPhC
  • Non Medical Prescribing (or within 3 months of being on the GPHC Register)
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification
  • MSc
  • MRPharmS

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrable post registration hospital experience
  • Delivery of clinical pharmacy services to a broad range of specialities
  • Effective working within a multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Evidence of significant, relevant and on-going personal CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Acute Teaching Trust/Tertiary Referral Centre experience
  • Leading medicine-related protocol development
  • Leading and supervising audit or practice research projects

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Advanced generalist knowledge of the clinical areas within the Medical and Surgical Division.
  • Knowledge of the law relating to pharmacy and medicines
Desirable criteria
  • Expert knowledge of the therapeutics and medicines regarding pain management and VTE

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good computer skills including effective use of office applications including analytical software
  • Logical thought processes
  • Appreciation of pharmaco-economics
  • Ability to critique and present complex or contentious clinical information in an impartial and balanced manner
  • Ability to effectively prioritise workload and work under pressure
  • Good organisational skills including ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work alone and as part of a team in a changing environment
  • Ability to manage change using appropriate negotiating skills when faced with barriers to change

  • Experience of working across the primary/secondary care interface

  • Experience of preparing patient group directions (PGDs)
