LUHFT employs over 120 pharmacists across 3 sites providing clinical pharmacy services to all major specialities.

This post is based on the Aintree Site. 

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and forward-thinking clinical pharmacist to  work with our vascular team reviewing and prescribing for vascular surgical patients and providing clinical support to the pre-operative care to these patients. 

This post is new to the Trust and we are looking for a motivated individual who is competent in managing vascular patients and their co-morbidities, working with a team of surgical pharmacists from pre operative stages through to discharge. 

We have fully integrated electronic systems to help you deliver excellent clinical care to your patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership and delivery of a high quality, proactive and patient focused clinical pharmacy service to the preoperative and same day elective surgical admission areas. 

Main duties of the job

Assist the Divisional Lead Pharmacist for Surgery in the development of pharmacy services and medicines management within the  Surgical directorate.

Assist the Divisional Lead Pharmacist for Surgery in providing clinical training and supervision relevant to preoperative care. 

Lead and provide clinical expertise in the delivery and development of pharmacy services to the vascular surgery directorates, developing an exemplary clinical service to our patients.

Develop and manage the vascular surgery pharmacy team on a daily basis to ensure safe and effective specialist clinical pharmacy service for patients and staff.

Work in conjunction with vascular consultants and nurses to identify and optimise patient co-morbidity and to refer to other specialities or services in a timely manner prior to surgery

To provide a safe and effective leadership for clinical pharmacy service to our patients admitted for acute and elective surgery.

Provide daily non-medical prescribing services to our vascular surgical patients in surgical wards. 

Undertake patient consultations who are to undergo vascular surgery.

Identify the clinical and economic impact of medicines use, develop and implement clinical guidelines, monitor drug expenditure and support the area to meet their clinical and financial targets.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide and lead on the   strategic direction and implementation of pharmacy services to our vascular services at Aintree.

To develop, manage, implement and evaluate pharmacy team services to the Directorates of Vascular surgery. 

Supervises the training of Pharmacy staff as needed. 

Liaise with appropriate health care professionals within Primary Care Trusts to ensure the effective and efficient use of resources across the primary/secondary care interface and where necessary develop relevant protocols

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Vocational masters degree in pharmacy
  • Full NMP qualification
  • Membership of The General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent documented clinical experience
Desirable criteria
  • MRPharmS
  • UKCPA membership

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience in a relevant specialist pharmacist role
  • Antimicrobial Stewardship experience
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuing professional development / education
  • Experience as a NMP

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Excellent clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills for the relevant specialist role
  • Good all-round clinical knowledge and practical clinical skills
Desirable criteria
  • Publications demonstrating such knowledge in the speciality of Vascular surgery

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
