Aintree University Hospital and Royal Liverpool Hospital

We seek an experienced and motivated Pharmacy Technician Manager to lead and manage our pharmacy dispensary team in a fast-paced hospital environment. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of excellence in pharmacy operations, a commitment to innovation, and the ability to inspire and manage a dedicated team of professionals

Working as part of our Technical Leadership Team across all our sites, the successful candidates must have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to lead, collaborate and inspire our technician teams. 

The successful candidates will be expected to lead, develop, deliver, monitor and evaluate all aspects of pharmacy dispensary technical services 

 

Main duties of the job

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of pharmacy technicians and assistants, promoting professional development and high performance.
  • Oversee daily operations of the pharmacy dispensary services, ensuring efficient and accurate medicine pathways.
  • Implement and monitor innovative practices to enhance workflow, patient safety, and service quality.
  • Maintain compliance with all regulatory standards, hospital policies, and best practices.
  • Coordinate with pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals to optimise medicine management.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

  • Leadership of the pharmacy dispensing service within site including business and strategic planning and the development and continuous improvement of patient care processes. 
  •     Provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence across the dispensary service in order that staff, patients and their families can have confidence and seek advice and support.
  •     Work collaboratively with other Technical Services Leads to remove variation and support joined up working.
  •      Responsible for the strategic direction of the dispensing service and for delivery of a dispensing service that meets the needs of the Trust.
  •     Responsible for ensuring that systems are in place to control the dispensing and distribution of medicines safely, effectively, efficiently and in compliance with all relevant legislation, the Trust Medicines Management Policy and other relevant policies.
  •     Responsible for stock control of medicines in the dispensary ensuring systems are in place to manage the storage and distribution of medicines safely, effectively, efficiently and in compliance with all relevant legislation, the Trust Medicines Management Policy and Trust standards of corporate governance.
  •      Lead, develop, deliver and evaluate the dispensing service provided by LUHFT to other organisations under SLAs.
  •    Ensure the pharmacy department is adequately staffed 7 days a week with technical staff at all times by overseeing rotas and workload allocation, leading on recruitment and selection of locums, reviewing shift patterns and forward planning services for staff within the teams. Manage service provision at weekends, evenings and bank holidays for dispensary staff.
  •    Responsible for the performance and personal development of dispensary staff by way of check ins, appraisals, service improvement objectives and personal development plans.
  •      Lead on ensuring all HR policies and procedures are adhered to for all dispensary staff including attendance capability and disciplinary policy.
  •    Responsible for ensuring robust business continuity plans are in place for the pharmacy dispensing service. 
  •      Ensure the GPHC pharmacy standards are met and the dispensary and satellites will meet inspection criteria.

Qualifications
