LIVERPOOL UNIVERSTITY HOSPITALS NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

The post holder will be expected to undertake out patient sessions and L/A Minor Oral Surgery sessions as well as day case operating lists carrying out mostly dento-alveolar and soft tissue surgery at Leighton Hospital Crewe and Aintree University Hospital Maxillofacial Units. A requirement to cover A&E and ward emergencies is also required.

The unit in Leighton Hospital Crewe is led by Miss F Bekiroglu with Miss K Fleming and Mr M Smith providing a service on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and is managed by the regional unit based at Aintree.

The post is for 12 months and 2 days per week,  Tuesday & Wednesday.

The job plan will be subject to change with the agreement of the post holder and the Clinical Director.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to undertake out patient sessions and L/A Minor Oral Surgery sessions as well as day case operating lists carrying out mostly dento-alveolar and soft tissue surgery at Leighton Hospital Crewe and Aintree University Hospital Maxillofacial Units. A requirement to cover A&E and ward emergencies is also required.

The post holder will supervise, support and collaborate with other practitioners as agreed to be appropriate with the Clinical Director. The Speciality Doctor will have a role in the training and supervising DCTs in OPD and L/A Minor oral surgery 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of 3 years postgraduate training (or the equivalent) which is recognised for full or limited (not provisional) registration with GDC, two of which must be in Maxillofacial Surgery, or have the equivalent experience and competencies.
  • BDS or equivalent.
  • Must have ALS qualification.
Desirable criteria
  • PG Cert in Higher education and learning.

EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • At least two years SHO/DCT training in approved oral surgery/ maxillofacial surgery post.
  • Experience in management of oral and maxillofacial problems.

ABILITY

Essential criteria
  • Experience in clinical and operative dento-alveolar surgery.
Desirable criteria
  • Independent operating experience in day case theatres.

TEACHING AND EDUCATION

Essential criteria
  • Commitment to teaching and supervision of junior staff.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of commitment to further continuous professional development.

AUDIT

Essential criteria
  • Interest and knowledge of audit.
  • Will play a part in Regional Audit Meetings.

STANDARDS

Essential criteria
  • High ethical/professional standards.
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of resource management and quality assurance.

RESEARCH

  • Interest in participate in a research project if appropriate.
