An exciting opportunity in trauma and orthopaedics team for static a band 6 OT.
You will be working within an integrated therapy team of Physiotherapists, OT’s, Assistant Practitioners and Therapy Assistants, providing a 7 day service on AUH. With a focus on early intervention, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in the assessment, management and rehabilitation of all types of orthopaedic trauma including fractured neck of femurs, rib fractures, limb reconstruction and complex open fractures to name a few. We have a strong focus on rehabilitation, with 6x reablement practitioners you will be able to support with various groups and focus more so on functional rehabilitation. An exciting development in thermoplastic splinting will also expose you to some splinting knowledge and support in developing skills.
Main duties of the job
You will develop strong links of communication with therapists based across the whole of LUHFT, to ensure seamless patient pathways. You will be well supported on the ward and will gain excellent skills in the management of MSK inpatients and advance your skills in complex discharge planning.
You will be involved with goal setting and decision making to arrange onward rehabilitation to various settings and outpatient facilities.
There are also excellent leadership and development opportunities since this team has a strong focus on the support of O.T. student placements and you will supervise band 5 OTs and our band 3 and 4 therapy assistant staff.
. There are many opportunities to educate and develop colleagues from various professions. The service is continuously developing, and you will have the opportunity to contribute to this service development. The team run an induction IST to meet your personal development needs and regular 1:1 supervision with a designated B7 supervisor.

Essential criteria
- Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent
- HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
- Member of Special Interest group
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post registration experience in a junior rotational post providing a broad experience in musculoskeletal / medical surgical conditions
- Evidence of a contribution to clinical education of less experienced staff, students or assistants.
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Evidence of the advanced skills required to plan complex and rapid discharges
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Evidence of sound clinical knowledge and specialist skills relevant to the clinical caseload
- Broad knowledge of current best practice in Occupational Therapy
- Have an understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
Skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to manage own work load, determine priorities and delegate tasks
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to keep accurate legible patient notes.
- Teaching / Presentations at In – Service level
- Able to evaluate and be critical of self
Desirable criteria
- Competent IT Skills
