Alder Hey is a key centre for children’s health research with the goal of giving all children and young people the opportunity to participate in, and benefit from, clinical research. The Clinical Research Division works with our clinicians, academia, and industry to invent, develop, and test new treatments for children and young people. We have a newly installed dedicated 3T GE Signa Premier MRI scanner.

The post holder will be required to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and deliver high-quality research and clinical imaging in the Cross-Sectional service for a variety of paediatric and adult presentations. The post holder must have a flexible approach to the working hours to accommodate the research demands. You are required to work in line with defined protocols and requirements with minimal supervision and with delicate attention to research participants.

You will work across both CT & MRI modalities at the Alder Hey site joining a team of highly skilled and enthusiastic paediatric radiographers.

You will be required to work closely with principal investigators and members of the research study teams to ensure that both clinical and commercial research trials are performed to agreed timescales and protocols.

We are the paediatric tertiary referral centre for children in Merseyside, as well as much of North West England and North Wales.

The radiology department provides all imaging modalities, including nuclear medicine, ultrasound, CT, MRI and intervention.

Our Cross Sectional Imaging department currently has two MRI scanners, a Philips Ingenia 1.5T and a 3T Ingenia intra-operative system A third MRI scanner, 3T GE Signa Premier is due for install in July 2024 and will form part of the Trusts innovation and research program as part of the 2030 vision. Our CT scanner is a Philips Ingenuity 128 Elite.

We perform a wide range of examinations including advanced neuro imaging (fMRI and intra-operative MRI), advanced cardiac MRI and CT.

We envisage our new MRI scanner to be at the forefront of research and development in both paediatric and adult research for example the “Laser Intra-operative therapy” trialled at Alder Hey in July 2023.

We are looking for an adaptable, friendly and enthusiastic candidate who would embrace the challenge of working with children. Previous experience in cross sectional imaging is desirable.
