Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.
We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

Job overview
These are 10 PA consultant paediatric neurologist appointments. The post holders will work together with 5 other consultant paediatric neurologists to deliver paediatric neurology care.
The post holders will be expected to provide neurology specialist service based on their previous experience and skills. We are open to colleagues with a specialist interest they are interested in developing; these roles are particularly suited to new consultants looking for a supported post to develop in their role.
Main duties of the job
This post attracts 10 programmed activities per week. There may be the opportunity to discuss and review this with the clinical director.
There is currently no overnight oncall in this roll but we are running a hot week model with some limited remote cover on weekends.
The supporting professional activities (SPAs) allocation within the provisional job plan is an illustrative guide only and will be finalised following individual agreement with successful candidate.
Working for our organisation
The Paediatric Neurology (PN) service provides tertiary care for children with neurological conditions throughout the Cheshire, Merseyside and wider North West of England and North Wales region, and secondary and tertiary care for children with neurological problems in Liverpool. It is a large busy service with a wide catchment area, serving a total population of 8 million. Although based in Liverpool, the service also provides peripheral outreach clinics on a regular basis to all the district general hospitals (DGH) within the region.
The paediatric neurology service is based entirely at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust hospital. It provides a tertiary level service for children who need neurological assessments, care and treatments namely spasticity and movement disorders assessment and management, complex epilepsy services including evaluation by the epilepsy surgery service (CESS), neuromuscular services, neuroinflammation and demyelination services, neurovascular service, movement disorders service, neuro-rehabilitation and complex neuroimaging. The service is part of the Division of Medicine and is embedded within other secondary and tertiary level services for children. The paediatric neurology service works closely with the paediatric neurosurgery service, providing medical input into all paediatric neurosurgical cases.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The job plan for the first three months will be based on a provisional/indicative timetable. A formal job plan will be agreed between the appointee and the Clinical Director within three months of the commencement date of the appointee.
