Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.
We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic paediatric nurse with High Dependency nursing experience who would like to develop their leadership skills in this permanent post. The successful candidate will have at least 2 years Band 5 experience working within a paediatric HDU and completion of the HDU Course. Excellent communication skills and a strong approach to teamwork are vital for this role. A proven track record of undertaking the Acting Team Leader role is essential.

Clinical Responsibilities and Competencies:

Continuously develop in the clinical role in order to ensure that effective care is delivered within HDU.
Management Duties:
Co-ordinate the unit, staff and patients, maintaining safety and deliverance of quality care.
Counsel, appraise and give guidance and support as required.
Support the Senior Team in staff issues relating to sickness and absence, poor performance, and staff development.
Ensure that Trust Management policies and procedures are understood and followed.
Undertake delegated responsibility for specific areas of operational management.

Responsible for the maintenance of patient records.
Responsible for the delivery of care that is sensitive to the needs of a diverse client base.
Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and relatives and professionals across health and social services.

Education and Training
Participate in pre and post registration training programmes and ensures a good learning environment within HDU.
Update personal knowledge by attending and participating in mandatory and statutory training, and ensuring own clinical skills are maintained and updated.
Participate in staff development and performance review systems.
Support and supervision of junior staff and students in the clinical environment.
Research
Promote evidence based practice by disseminating relevant research findings to staff.
Encouraging and acting as resource person for staff who are interested in undertaking research projects.
Advising and assisting with writing evidence based nursing standards, procedures and policies. Risk Management
Responsible for the promotion and maintenance of safe working environment for Trust staff and all people who visiting the premises.
Responsible for maintaining patient safety.
Responsible for demonstrating compliance and competence of the Trust’s health and Safety policies.
Responsible for the reporting of accidents and incidents to the Ward Manager
Responsible for the legible and accurate patient nursing records in accordance with trust and professional body guidelines
