Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

We currently have more than 4,000 staff working across our community and hospital sites. We’re also a teaching and training hospital providing education and training to around 540 medical and over 500 nursing and allied health professional students each year.

Job overview

To provide highly specialist financial advice and support in all aspects of Commercial financial management.

The primary purpose of the role is to provide support to meet the Trust's statutory reporting requirements and deadlines in line with Finance Policy and Procedure’s. 

The post holder will develop and produce information to support accurate and timely monthly performance reports for presentation at service meetings and to feed into the Trusts position for internal and external corporate reporting.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure that the Associate Chief Operating Officer, Divisional Directors, Service Managers & Budget holders of the Commercial Division receive full financial advice and support to meet the Trust Statutory targets to give an accurate report of performance.  You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the divisions have the necessary support and information for decision making as well as ensuring the divisions and the wider Trust develop financial awareness.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will be a proactive and highly motivated, CCAB or CIMA qualified accountant, with post qualification experience, with strong IT skills and competent in the use of Microsoft Office.

The Commercial Finance Business Partner will need:

  • To lead on all aspects of financial management of the Division to ensure financial viability 
  • To oversee the preparation of divisional budgets in accordance with guidelines and deadlines provided by the Director of Finance
  • Provide strong leadership to the divisional finance team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • CCAB or CIMA Qualified
  • Evidence of post qualification development and training
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven financial management experience.
  • Experience of working with senior managers/professionals
  • Experience of staff management/development
  • Evidence of track record of achievement
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of NHS financial management

Knowledge
