Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen in our Outpatients department (OPD) at the Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust for a 4 month secondment into the Department Manager's position (manager approval must be gained prior to application, immediate start required by successful candidate).

The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the divisions and range of MDT in providing high quality care for our outpatients. Maintaining a positive professional image in the department is key whilst adhering to the Walton Way values.

You must be have relevant clinical experience, be passionate, dedicated and innovative in order to help move our ever growing service forward.
The post holder will be responsible for their department and through the principles of care will; 
promote and monitor safe and effective nursing practice
enhance the patient experience
provide effective leadership and management to staff
contribute to the delivery of the organisation’s objectives and the Nursing Strategy hold responsibility for their areas budget
be responsible for delivering some aspects of the corporate professional Nursing Agenda as and when it relates to the area in which they work.

Main duties of the job

The Walton Centre Foundation Trust has signed up to the Principles of Care as our Benchmark of Quality of Care. Therefore all nursing staff needs to be familiar with and adhere to these principles; this is reflected throughout all job descriptions.

 

The post holder is accountable for their department and using the Principles of Care will:

 

  • Promote and monitor safe and effective nursing practice
  • Enhance the patient experience
  • Provide effective leadership and management to staff.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the organisation’s objectives and the Nursing Strategy
  • The post holder will be responsible for delivering some aspects of the corporate professional Nursing Agenda as and when it relates to the area in which they work.

 

 

 

The Post holder will work closely with the divisional matron ensuring that patients receive safe, high quality care. It is expected that the post holder will maintain a high level of clinical experience and will be required to undertake pre-operative assessments, administer botox and nerve block injections. Full training will be provided where required.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 1st level Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Relevant diploma/degree/equivalent experience
  • Recognised teaching/mentorship qualification
  • Basic life support and extended clinical skills.
Desirable criteria
  • Customer Care Qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post-registration experience in an acute adult setting
  • Relevant clinical and managerial experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of undertaking pre-op assessment
  • Relevant post-registration experience in an OPD/Day Case setting

Skills and Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Student Nurse Assessor
  • Relevant Teaching Qualification
  • Evidence of ability to act as a preceptor/mentor
  • Evidence of involvement in producing teaching strategies/packages
  • Relevant clinical knowledge/experience of the speciality
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to service improvement in clinical areas
  • Good problem solving and decision making abilities
  • Knowledge of recent Nursing Strategies and the changing NHS environment
  • Demonstrates an understanding of good customer care
