Job overview

The PharmaC team at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Wirral has an opportunity for a passionate and dedicated individual who is looking for a new challenge, the next step in their Pharmacy career, or just something different.

You will be joining a diverse and professional team, who take pride in providing a high quality and efficient medicines supply service to the Trust, to ensure that patients receive the best care. You will be involved in many different aspects of supplying medicines.

You will need great communication, accuracy and organisational skills. You will need to follow strict procedures and instructions carefully; dealing with queries and issues promptly and escalating when necessary. You will also need accurate record keeping and IT skills.

Pharmacy experience is desirable, but full training is provided. We can offer plenty of opportunities for development and progression to those who have demonstrated excellence in the service of our patients. Experience in customer services, stock and inventory management or medicines procurement is desirable, but the ability to learn quickly and work accurately important.

You must have a good level of education, having a minimum of a GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths, English and Science at Grade C or above. 

The post will be based mainly  at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Wirral, but will require travel to work at the Liverpool site as required.

Main duties of the job

Pharmacy Assistant: Full time – 40 hours per week (part time options may be available subject to agreement/discussion)

Main Duties:

  • Perform all aspects of medicinal stock management duties, including ordering, receiving, distribution, dispensing, selling, stock taking, date checking and destruction.
  • Follow all departmental and Trust wide procedures.
  • Understand limits of responsibility, and appropriately escalating any issues or queries when needed.
  • Maintaining accurate and safe storage of medicines in line with regulations.
  • Communicating with colleagues, other healthcare professionals, customers, patients and relatives in a clear and professional manner, ensuring accuracy of information at all times.
  • Work towards, achieve and maintain Buttercups Level 2 Pharmacy Assistant qualification.

Salary information: initial starting point £24,510 per annum pro rata moving to £26,792 per annum upon one years' service and successful appraisal.

PLEASE NOTE: there is a two part assessment and interview process for this role.

 
Initial interview invitation will be for a standardised numeracy and literacy test.  If successful at this stage you will be invited to a second formal interview session within approximately 7 to 10 days.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • 5 GCSE or equivalent – grade C or above including Maths, English AND Science.
Desirable criteria
  • Holds Pharmacy Assistant qualification (Level 2 Equivalent) accredited by the GPhC
  • Holds Medicines Counter Assistant qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrated use of IT equipment and software in a workplace or college
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of Pharmacy regulations and procedures in the UK

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working to procedures
  • Experience of customer service
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of stock management
  • Experience in pharmacy services
