Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our award- winning pain service. As  the lead pain physiotherapist you will be part of the multi- disciplinary team consisting of, anaesthetic consultants, specialist nurses, specialist OT, psychologist and junior physio staff.

You will have your own case load of patients, assessing and rehabilitating patients with chronic pain as well as the opportunity to contribute to group education sessions. You will also have the opportunity for service development and joint working /collaboration with other members of the team. You will run a specialist joint clinic alongside our consultant pain doctors to provide our most complex patients with a multidisciplinary approach.  In all of this you will be supported by the 8a extended scope orthopaedic physiotherapists as well as by the wider team.

 

Main duties of the job

  • To work collaboratively within the specialist Pain service
  • To work with the Stockport Multi disciplinary Team to promote an efficient, effective service for all patients and carers
  • Work as an autonomous practitioner, both professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of the professional and clinical work.
  • To have a role in the responsibility for the management of patients care pathway through the Pain service
  • To be responsible for a designated caseload of patients, where you will assess patients and implement and evaluate treatment plans, and coordinate interventions
  • As a registered Allied Health Care Professional you will assist in the organisation, development, promotion and delivery of the Pain service
  • To liaise with health, education and social services, working in partnership with primary and secondary carer, social prescribers and other external agencies to ensure the delivery of a high quality service, and facilitate effective discharge and/or onward referral
  • Make recommendations to the wider team re changes to practice, which may lead to the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service guidelines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Provide physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients referred from the Adult Pain Clinic.

To act as a source of expertise on the management of complex and general chronic pain patients providing an advisory service to patients, relatives, physiotherapists, other healthcare professionals and medical staff.

To take a major role in the advanced assessment and treatment of patients within the speciality who may have complex and or chronic presentation, and to determine clinical diagnosis and physiotherapy treatment indicated.

To maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.

To undertake a leadership role in the planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluation of the therapy service provided to the patients within the speciality across the sites on a day-to-day basis.

To educate and train physiotherapists, other health professionals, medical staff and physiotherapy students in the management of chronic pain conditions.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Person specification

education and qualification

Essential criteria
  • degree in physiotherapy
  • State Registration
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio
  • Clinical Educators/Field Worker course or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • M’ level or equivalent courses in relevant speciality

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Clinical reasoning skills
  • Knowledge of a range of relevant conditions and their management
  • Knowledge of recent NHS and trust developments and their impact on the service
  • Knowledge of the condition of chronic Pain

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Clinical experience as a Band 6 with specialist knowledge of Pain
  • Experience of organising and implementing training programmes for staff
  • Experience of utilizing pain management strategies such as but not restricted to CBT/ACT
  • Experience of working as part of a Multidisciplinary team

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to support others, patients and staff
  • Ability to manage time
  • Advanced clinical reasoning skills & high level problem solving skills
  • Ability to keep accurate patient notes
