Job overview

We are recruiting for a LAS Specialty Registrar (CT3) to join the Trauma & Orthopaedic department on a fixed term basis for  6 months starting in August 2024 with the possibility of an extension for a further 6 months.

Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain more orthopaedic experience before applying for National ST selection in Trauma and Orthopaedics.

You will  gain experience of a variety of elective orthopaedic procedures. You will also become confident in the outpatient management of common fractures.

You will be given many opportunity to attend theatre/clinic as well as working as part of team looking after elective and trauma patients. There are also audit and research opportunities for you to build a competitive CV

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is an excellent opportunity to work alongside a team of 21 Orthopaedic Consultants. The work includes a combination of elective operating, general trauma operating, elective outpatient and fracture clinics. The post will work across different sub-specialties in lower and upper limb surgery.

The Orthopaedic Service is housed in a Purpose-built unit including wards, theatres, outpatient and fracture clinics, a new Accident and Emergency Department, and an expanded Intensive Care Unit. There are 3 Trauma and Orthopaedic wards at Stepping Hill Hospital. Paediatric beds are on a dedicated paediatric surgical ward in a purpose built paediatric unit. Theatre provision is in two new theatre complexes, including the use of clean air laminar flow theatre for all trauma, elective and day case orthopaedic surgery.

Stepping Hill Hospital is an associate teaching, busy District General Hospital with most major specialities. The Trust has an active Postgraduate Centre with a comprehensive programme of clinical meetings, seminars and excellent library and video conferencing facilities.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust’s policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
