Job overview

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Physiotherapist to join our dynamic and cohesive Integrated Therapy Team at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. We offer a rotational programme within our team working across a variety of different areas including Urgent Care, Critical Care, Surgical Wards and Speciality Medical Wards, Community Neurology Rehabilitation, Adult Community Therapy,  Community MSK,  Outpatients, Inpatient Stroke team, Discharge to Assess services, Inpatient Neuro Rehabilitation and Pulmonary Rehab.

We are looking for individuals who are proactive, forward thinking and resilient.  People who use their initiative and have the ability to work on their own and as part of a team. Excellent communication, organisational skills and strong leadership skills are required, as well as being adaptable to our ever changing and pressurised environments. 

 Post will require working in an out of hours emergency on call respiratory service. Requirement to work on a seven day rota for several services covered in the rotational contract.

ESSENTIAL: Access to own car with a valid driver’s license in order to travel across the locality of Stockport for domiciliary community working (or suitable alternative transport arrangements).

Main duties of the job

The post will involve assessment and treatment of patients to promote earlier hospital discharge (transfer of care) with a home first ethos. You will work as part of an integrated team to improve flow and quality of the patient journey. Your caseload will be variable and comprise of some complex conditions; therefore applicants must have a broad range of previous experience including working in an acute NHS setting. 

The successful candidate will require a flexible approach to working, including weekends and bank holidays. There is a responsibility for Respiratory on Call evening and weekend duties, which is underpinned by teaching and a competency programme.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will complete 9 monthly rotations throughout the Integrated Therapy Directorate, this includes rotations based in Stepping Hill Hospital and many based across the community services of Stockport. They will be responsible for providing a high standard of physiotherapy to all patients.  They will participate in the emergency out of hours on-call evening and weekend respiratory rota in addition to working in seven day services.

They will be an autonomous practitioner, both professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of their HCPC proficiencies and clinical work. A driving license with suitable business insurance is essential for this position.

They will assess, diagnose, plan and deliver treatment programs to patients in their care. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme and organise safe and timely discharge.
  • To be responsible for your own caseload and a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training, team in service training and 1-1 supervision with the team leader.
  • To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Supervise, educate and assess the performance of Physiotherapy Students (this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification). This role is preceded by a clinical educator’s course.
  • Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team’s clinical practice Make recommendations to clinical team leader for changes to practice.  May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service guidelines.
  • To provide regular supervision to junior physiotherapy and assistant staff on the team.
  • To participate in the on-call respiratory rota.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Nice Guidance, current research and recommended practice
  • Knowledge of D2A, intermediate care and community/support services.

Education & Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Physiotherapy
  • State Registration (member of HCPC)
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of CPD and attendance at post graduate courses in relevant clinical area/s

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing student / assistant / band 4 or 5 development including supervision & clinical education using a variety of methods
  • Experience of acute hospital Band 5 rotation scheme including the following specialities: Orthopaedics, Medicine, ICU, Respiratory, Neuro, Older people, Outpatients, intermediate care and discharge to assess.
  • Significant experience working on the OOH respiratory on call rota
  • Significant experience using complex or specialist assessment, diagnostics and interventions
  • Experience of clinical governance including audit
