Job overview
A vacancy has arisen for a time served mechanical or electrical craftsperson, willing to perform mechanical tasks, to work a rotating shift pattern (subject for review) maintaining plant and equipment on the Stepping Hill Hospital site. The post holder will have primary responsibility for the running and maintenance of the main boiler house and associated steam rising plant, together with out of hours hands on responsibility for site maintenance and repairs. Salary circa 35 - 40K with shift enhancements.
With a recognised apprenticeship in and a minimum of level 3 BTEC or NVQ qualifications your wide experience will enable you to carry out maintenance and repairs of plant and equipment on the hospital site. The successful applicant will be a self-motivated individual with good communication skills, general electrical/mechanical engineering experience, and an ability to work on their own initiative.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be employed by Stockport NHS Foundation Trust as a maintenance craftsperson to undertake work appropriate to their core skills. Based at the Stepping Hill Hospital Site with key responsibilities for Boiler House PPM duties including BOAS (Boiler Operations Accreditation Scheme) trained accredited operator award, out of hours emergency response for faults on electrical, mechanical and plumbing services throughout the Hospital.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· The primary responsibility will involve the running and maintenance of the hospital steam raising plant and its associated equipment.
· The post holder will undertake all statutory and non-statutory PPM’s in the boiler house to ensure the safe operation of all steam raising plant and will be a trained or working towards BOAS Accredited Operator Award.
· The post holder will undertake all statutory and non-statutory PPM’s on site and out of the boiler house including pool water testing, air handling unit services and VIE testing working towards HTM standards
· The post holder will have an understanding of gas systems, gas burners, and gas regulations.
· The post holder will be responsible for responding to all boiler house alarms.
· The post holder will have detailed knowledge of mechanical, electrical engineering and plumbing services.
· To undertake planned maintenance work, prioritise daily workload and carry out repairs to installations across the hospital site.
· The post holder will diagnose and identify faults in engineering installations, plant equipment, and drainage systems, resolve the problem and repair.
· To possess relevant trade qualification for a multi-skilled role in engineering or building services.
· To participate as a member of the lift release team.

If successful this vacancy will require a Standard DBS check at a cost of £21.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.

Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised Apprenticeship
- Qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering Installation HNC/HND (NVQ 3 equivalent or higher) plus relevant experience to graduate level
- Good education standard
Desirable criteria
- HNC/ONC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
- Gas/oil fired boiler qualifications (NVQ 3 equivalent or higher)
- CP Pressure Systems
- Qualification in welding (NVQ 3 equivalent or higher).
- Qualification in Water Hygiene.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Experience in test & inspection of Mechanical installations.
Desirable criteria
- Intermediate/advanced PC keyboard skills
