Job overview

FULL TIME POST - 37.5 HOURS  A WEEK

An exciting opportunity has risen for a band 5 staff nurse within our motivated and well established ward team. Within this department the successful applicant will be caring for early pregnancy and emergency Gynaecology patients in a ten bedded ward, alongside four assessment beds. 

Whilst working on the ward you will be caring for a diverse caseload of patients ranging from post-operative elective surgery to acute emergencies. You will be expected to be involved in an individuals care from admission to discharge, maintaining and improving current standards and supporting the team in meeting required targets, both at local and national level.

Main duties of the job

The post holder should have an attitude base on strong nursing values and an overall commitment to provide patients and their families with care that is first and foremost based on a culture of compassion, professionalism and respect.

We are a 24 hour Gynaecology Ward with an in patient Assessment area and an Outpatient Assessment Unit combined. We have nine Gynaecology consultants covering various aspects of care including Fertility, Oncology, Early Pregnancy , Minor and Major surgery and Urodynamics.

Our Early Pregnancy Unit is Nurse Led with a 7 day a week scan service and there is opportunity for ward based training  within this area as staff become more experienced.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

We have a high number of students and will therefore have numerous opportunities for teaching and developing. We are keen to assist with Mentor training and encourage spoke placements to all of our linked areas including theatre, Colposcopy, Fertility, Early Pregnancy and Out Patients.

All our staff members work as a close team encouraging communication within all grades.

Continuing ongoing training is encouraged to ensure that all staff are compliant.

As a band 5 nurse you will be expected to care for a group of patients and when experienced on occasions, be in charge of the ward.

You will be expected to administer medications within the hospital policies and guidelines as well as develop skills if not already competent in Venepuncture and Cannulation. You will be expected to care for patients with ongoing miscarriages, Gynaecological problems major and minor, terminations and outlying patients with various conditions.

You will experience many telephone referrals from patients  and therefore it is essential that you have excellent communications skills as well as a compassionate nature.

If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
