Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Estates team at Stepping Hill Hospital. We are seeking a highly motivated, appropriately skilled, reliable and enthusiastic Plumber/Mechanical Engineer that is able to work well under pressure to carry out plumbing/mechanical maintenance within a hospital environment.
The successful applicant will have a recognized apprenticeship and hold a City & Guilds Certificate or equivalent NVQ qualifications. The post holder will be required to undertake rostered overtime.
Main duties of the job
The post is at Stepping Hill Hospital but you may be asked to work at other sites within the Trust. Experience working in an Acute Hospital maintenance environment would be an advantage, as would familiarity with large commercial/industrial estates. You will be part of a multi trade team delivering a quality service to support patient services within the Trust.
There will be a requirement to work overtime; both rostered and ad-hoc; at short notice as required to meet the needs of the Trust and its healthcare environment. There will also be a need to form part of the on-call response team to assist our out of hours staff where required.

Job Summary
The postholder will be employed on plumbing maintenance work appropriate to their core skills throughout Stockport NHS Foundation Trust premises comprising mainly Stepping Hill Hospital and Devonshire Unit.
The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trust’s policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.
If successful this vacancy will require a Standard DBS check at a cost of £26.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Education & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Recognised Apprenticeship
- NVQ Level 3 or higher in Plumbing Studies or equivalent experience
- Good Education Standard
