Job overview

This post would ideally suit those who have previous experience of Psychiatry or Paediatrics and have an interest in Neurodevelopmental conditions. The post is a 12 months fixed term locum post for which 3 sessions are available. The Trust will support any interested appointees with their application for Speciality Training and further professional development. This post offers an excellent experience in Community Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

The Consultant body has a variety of special interests and there are many opportunities for the successful candidate to gain further experience and expand their knowledge to support further professional development in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in discussion with their Consultant.

Main duties of the job

Core clinical work

 

·   ADHD screaning/ assessments / Qb clinics / Participation in Multi-professional panel meetings

 

ADHD medication initiation, titration & follow-up

Any urgent assessments.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful candidate will join ADHD nurse specialists, Mental Health Practitioners and Assistant Psychologists in delivering the ADHD pathway.  The successful candidate will develop expertise in assessing and diagnosing children and young people with ADHD and identifying those that can be appropriately managed by the Paediatric ADHD service.

The post holder will offer psychiatric assessments for young people with ADHD who are too complex for the Paediatric ADHD service, either on their own or jointly with another team member or consultant. They will provide psychoeducation & signposting to post-diagnostic services, discuss management options in accordance with NICE guidance and initiate and monitor ADHD medication where appropriate. They will screen for comorbidities and refer on to other relevant CAMHS pathways or community services accordingly.

 

  • The successful candidate will be expected to accumulate their own out-patient load from new referrals, help out with known patients in out-patients and pick up ongoing patient management through the team as appropriate.

 

  • The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the bio psychosocial model of care with the other members of the multi-disciplinary team.  This includes history taking, mental state examination of all patients and the physical examination of outpatients where appropriate.  The treatments may be physical, pharmacological, psychological and social as appropriate.  CAMHS team offers various psychological therapies such as CBT, family therapy, IPT and DBT.                                                                                                       The post holders will not have any out of hour’s responsibilities                                                                                                            There is an on site Duty Consultant every day of the week to support

Qualification and Training

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration.
Desirable criteria
  • MRCPsych

Experience and skills

Essential criteria
  • At Least 2 years of Experience of Psychiatry and/or Paediatrics at CT / ST level or equivalent
  • Knowledge of ADHD and how ADHD is treated in children and young people
  • Knowledge of normal child development and common emotional and behavioural conditions
  • Awareness of key legislation NSF, NICE, MHA, MCA, Children Act
  • Safe prescribing practice
  • Safeguarding awareness
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in CAMHS or Paediatric Settings
