Specialist Respiratory Nurse Oxygen Therapy

Trosolwg o'r swydd

  • To assess and manage patients on home oxygen sometimes managing complex patients.
  • To work autonomously within the service making clinical decisions instigating long term oxygen therapy and managing safety issues.
  • Act as a clinical advisor for non-specialist ward teams regarding long term oxygen prescribing.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • To assess new and follow up patients in the nurse led Oxygen clinics, and within patients own homes, in line with National British Thoracic Society (BTS) home oxygen therapy guidelines (2015)
  • To ensure provision of holistic and rapid assessment of patients referred in line with the department’s targets.
  • To perform capillary blood gas analysis in clinic and in the patients home, needs to be able to undertake the task and interpret the results to initiate, titrate or remove home oxygen therapy.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

  • To understand the rationale for home oxygen therapy and be able to communicate
    this to patients, carers, and other health care professionals.
  • To provide supervision, delegation and support to the home oxygen service Technical officer and admin staff.
  • To offer support, advice and liaise with other health care professionals regarding patients care.
  • To refer patients into other tertiary services and to consultants as appropriate
  • Ensure that clinical assessments, planning and evaluation of care comply with the alliance and departmental clinical standards.
  • Provide education to patients, families and carers about their illness, and appropriate oxygen use to improve their quality of life and assist them in the self-management of their condition.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely.
