Job overview

A vacancy has arisen for a Band 5 Building Surveyor Adaptations to work at Burrows House in Swinton under the Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust.

Technical Support to residents of Salford requiring adaptations to their homes.  You will design schemes and submit where appropriate to planning and building control, produce works specifications, perform the role of contract administrators while works are on site using Framework contractors.

Main duties of the job

The Adaptations Team are part of a suite of services within independent living services of Salford Care Organisation. The team supports residents to remove environmental barriers within their homes to support independent living.

As part of a of small team of Building Surveyors you will have knowledge and experience of construction, project design, specifications and contract manage framework contractors. The role will require the successful applicant to problem solve and use Computer Aided Design software to interpret clinical assessment outcomes into practical design options.

This is a rewarding and varied role involving managing multiple projects such as bathroom conversions and internal alterations to bedroom / shower extensions on domestic properties that will require excellent communication skills with clients, statutory agencies, stakeholders and contractors.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HNC in Construction/Building Studies/Surveying or equivalent
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Construction and Health and Safety/or Equivalent
  • Computer Aided Design training or equivalent experience of producing building designs using CAD software packages

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of planning legislation and building control
  • Ability to carry out surveys and assess repair requirements of structures
  • Effective use of business tools and IT
  • Ability to work well as an effective and flexible member of a multidisciplinary team and share and encourage good practice and support continuous improvement
  • Technically competent re land /building legislation
  • Experience as a contract administrator to manage contractors using Frameworks
  • Awareness of disability / health conditions and their influence on project solution/design

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Full current driving licence and use of own vehicle for use in the execution of own duties
  • Extensive experience and ability in writing specifications and tender documents
  • Ability to use logic and information to achieve design solutions
  • Able to prioritise work to ensure achievement of goals
