Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist - Emergency Assessment Unit

‘An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Emergency Village Therapy Team. We are looking for a dynamic, proactive and forward thinking Band 7 Occupational Therapist with proven experience in the acute setting to join our established team. The post holder will be covering a maternity leave. You will work closely with physiotherapy colleagues and the wider MDT to support timely assessments and discharges from ED and the Emergency Assessment Unit. This is a fast paced and rapidly changing environment focused on preventing unnecessary admissions into the hospital and facilitating timely discharges from the acute setting.
As a valued member of the team you will be key to service developments, relevant audits and data collection as well as supervising Band 6 and 5 Occupational Therapists and supporting students on their clinical placements.’

To take a lead in the advanced assessment/treatment of EAU patients who may have complex presentations. To develop treatment plans, recommend where rehabilitation input is required, commence the rehabilitation process, support flow throughout the hospital and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
· To be an expert in the holistic assessment of needs for patients on EAU patients. To lead assessment, liaison and decision making process on behalf of the MDT, and effectively liaise and communicate with the patient and external agencies.
· To be a source of expertise and undertake a significant caseload to a high professional standard, using specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience.
· To plan, co-ordinate and evaluate the Occupational Therapy Service provided within the services on a day to day basis and support the wider Occupational Therapy Service as required.
· To support and lead the Occupational Therapy team in the delivery of evidence based and client centred care within the speciality.
· To monitor and improve standards of care by efficient use of resources, utilising clinical audit and research within this clinical area.
- To work as an autonomous practitioner being professionally and legally accountable for all aspects for your work, managing own caseload and maintain patient and own records.

- • Evidence of wide clinical theoretical knowledge base and specialist knowledge in assessment and treatment of EAU patients.
- • Experience of MDT working.
- • Experience of working across other specialities including Neuro, Ageing complex medicine, Major Trauma and Orthopaedics
