Headache Specialist Nurse

Job overview
This is an exciting new post in the clinical headache service to cover maternity leave, managing and treating patients suffering from headache disorders.
Much of the clinical work will involve helping run the Botox service for chronic migraine and supporting patients with headache disorders with NICE approved treatments.
Main duties of the job
1) Provide specialist advice, support, assessment, planning and implementation of headache care in a holistic manner. This will involve effective communication with various individuals and groups on complex, potentially stressful, topics in a range of situations
2) Work closely with members of the headache team (HT) and multi - disciplinary professional team.
3) Ensure that patients receive seamless care within the trust and community.
4) Enhance and help develop the existing service, using evidence-based knowledge, theory and practice, in order to deliver a high standard of cost effective care to patients affected by headache.
5) To Support specialist education and training programmes for other staff and learners in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team.

- Degree in nursing or Diploma in higher education in nursing
Professional registration
Essential criteria
- Current NMC registration first level nurse
Knowledge, training and experience
Essential criteria
- • Experience within a neurological setting
- • Demonstrates relevant specialist expertise underpinned by theory acquired through CPD
- • Evidence of ability to work across a number of projects and maintain documentation to a high standard
Desirable criteria
- • Evidence of experience at self-management within a given area
- • Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners
- • Evidence of involvement in the development of protocols and audit.
Skills and abilities
Essential criteria
- • Can demonstrate assertiveness, tact and diplomacy appropriately
- • Is a qualified non-medical prescriber or working towards it
Desirable criteria
- • Clinical examination and diagnostics skills
