Job overview

Are you a forward thinking, passionate  individual with experience and skills within Major Trauma services ready for a band 7 position to join our team.  Here at Salford Care Organisation we lead on the Major Trauma services with a new state of art, Major Trauma centre,  complete with Helipad,  to provide advance Major Trauma services to Greater Manchester population.  We receive  a wide variety of patients with surgical, neurosurgical, plastics and orthopaedic problems. 

The team is headed by a Band 8 clinical lead managing  a large team of  physiotherapists and occupational therapists  from band 3 to band 7 level.  We pride ourselves on our strong  working relationships with our OT colleagues and the wider MDT.  

You would be responsible for the day to day running of the physiotherapy team, supported by the Band 8a, implementing innovative ways of working and developing the service. 

Main duties of the job

·       To take a lead role in the advanced assessment and treatment of neurological / neurosurgical patients, who may have complex and /or chronic presentation. 

·       To determine clinical diagnosis and treatment indicated and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.

·       To lead assessment, liaison, and decision-making processes on behalf of the MDT for patients referred to the service.

·       To undertake a significant clinical caseload to a high professional standard using specialist knowledge from theoretical and practical experience.

·       Be an expert in the field of the therapeutic aspects of major trauma, developing cross boundary working practices and integrating research evidence into practice.

·       Support the therapy clinical lead and wider MDT to support the development of a rehabilitation ethos, knowledge & practices for all staff working with major trauma patients

·       Act as a clinical advisor for Major Trauma patients within the trust footprint and to support the clinical lead on relevant local and national committees, networks and working parties.

·       Support the clinical lead with to develop and lead on AHP research & audit that contributes to the knowledge base and clinical practice of therapy within major trauma and orthopaedics, linking with Academic Institutions. 

·       To be able to work across 7 days, contributing to weekend working and to the respiratory on-call rota.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSC Physiotherapy Degree
  • HCPC registered
  • Recognised leadership qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate MSC level study relevant to Trauma and / or leadership
  • Evidence of involvement in trauma related research or publications
  • CSP Member

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of advanced assessment and treatment skills of acute and complex Trauma patients
  • Evidence of strong MDT working and networking
  • Evidence of a strong understanding leadership
  • Strong evidence of supervision, staff development being a strong clinical educator within a clinical setting
  • Evidence of quality improvement work or Service development within trauma related clinical setting
  • Evidence of autonomous decision making Neurosurgical setting
  • Evidence of advanced communication skills and leading difficult discussions
  • Extensive evidence of post registration NHS based working at band 6 or 7 level in a Major Trauma setting
  • Strong evidence of working with neurosurgical, orthopaedic and respiratory patients at band 6 or 7 level
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of EDI and evidence of how you have supported it in the workplace.
  • Recognised clinical educators course and update training
  • Evidence of continued CPD relevant to Major Trauma
  • Evidence of complex moving and handling skills, ability to therapeutically handle and concentrate in complex clinical scenario's
