Band 6

Trosolwg o'r swydd

This is a fabulous opportunity to specialise in the care of people living with multiple sclerosis. The specialist nurse role in multiple sclerosis is extremely rewarding as you are caring for people in a lifelong professional capacity offering support to the individual and their families working closely with allied health professionals. We are a large, yet close knit, team who are fortunate to have access to ongoing education both in the UK and overseas networking with other MS nurses throughout the UK.

Based at Salford Royal, we work across the Greater Manchester and East Cheshire region with a patient population of approximately 5,500 and have close links with our neurology wards and colleagues.

Candidates need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, empathy, resilience to emotionally challenging situations and organisational abilities to work in an autonomous role.

Once trained, the candidates typical week will comprise of independently reviewing patients in face to face and telephone clinics to address common symptoms that people with multiple sclerosis experience, explore and address lifestyle factors which influence health, be vigilant to blood monitoring related to disease modifying therapies and make appropriate referrals to allied health professionals signposting to charitable organisations. We also have a telephone helpline with each nurse responsible for dealing with enquiries in a prompt manner.  The specialist nurses provide a domiciliary service to review patients at home who have progressive multiple sclerosis rendering them unable to attend hospital appointments.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as a Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC Pin within the next 2-3 months. Please note an NMC PRN Pin is not a full NMC Pin and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. To learn more about how you can gain a full NMC PIN to be eligible to apply for our vacancies in the future, please see the NMC website:  https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/joining-the-register/register-nurse-midwife/trained-outside-uk/how-to-guide/
