Qualified Nurse - Haematology

Band 5

Job overview

Would you like to train as a Chemotherapy Nurse? We are looking for two Registered Nurses who are passionate about Haematology cancer care and developing into a competent chemotherapy administrator.

If you have experience of working and caring for patients and families who have received chemotherapy in either an oncology or haematology setting, then we need you!

We have two vacancies available - One 30 hours per week and a second a 28 hours per week vacancy.

The Haematology Unit comprises of a 7 bedded inpatient ward and a 11 chair day case treatment area.

There is a commitment to the personal and professional development of the entire team. You will be allocated a team leader to work within and will be given regular feedback and support to aid in your development. The Unit was awarded SCAPE in January 2012 and maintained the status since. We want team members who are open to change and have a desire to constantly improve the patient experience.

Your nursing skills will reflect a range of clinical skills and you must be willing to undertake any training the management deemed necessary.

Must be able to work flexible rotation of long days and nights.

Main duties of the job

Ideally you will have previous Haematology/Oncology experience and completed a chemotherapy course however this experience is not essential and applicants with managing acutely unwell patients and have easily transferable skills would be welcomed. This role is not suitable for newly qualified staff and will require minimum 6 months nursing experience.

You will gain experience caring for patients who have a wide range of Haematological malignancies, receiving intensive chemotherapy and side effects related to chemotherapy. This role would ideally suit an individual who wishes to build on their acutely unwell adult nursing skills, IV drug administrations, medication and disease symptom management, cannulation, venepuncture, line care and palliative care.

There is opportunity to progress your knowledge with Haematology conditions and chemotherapy administration competencies

You will be based in the day unit area, however will rotate to the inpatient ward to gain full exposure and experience of the haematology services.

You will be expected to work short shifts across 4 days in the day unit and the flexibility to rotate on to long days and nights to cover the inpatient ward

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as a Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC Pin within the next 2-3 months. Please note an NMC PRN Pin is not a full NMC Pin and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. To learn more about how you can gain a full NMC PIN to be eligible to apply for our vacancies in the future, please see the NMC website:  https://www.nmc.org.uk/registration/joining-the-register/register-nurse-midwife/trained-outside-uk/how-to-guide/

This vacancy is within one of our pilot areas therefore if you are invited for interview you will receive your interview questions in advance of your interview date. Feedback on this process will also be requested to help our teams understand and evaluate your recruitment experience
