The Emergency Department is seeking a qualified Locum Consultant for a period of 12 months.
This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest NHS hospitals in the whole of the UK, including our brand-new Major Trauma Centre building which opened in May 2024.
You will join a team of 25 Emergency Medicine Consultants, 2 Specialists working at Consultant level, 4 Ambulatory Paediatricians and 3 Paediatric Emergency Nurse Consultants.
The successful candidate will participate in delivering the full spectrum of adult Emergency Care across the Emergency Village ,which includes our brand-new state of the art Emergency Receiving Area (ERA) situated within the new Major Trauma Centre building. Opportunities to also work in paediatric Emergency Care will be available to suitably qualified candidates.
- If you have a keen interest in research, there are many opportunities open to you within the Major Trauma Centre. Our services based within the building have a strong research-ethos.
- If you’ve got a head for heights, you can be proud to work in a building which introduces a helipad to the Salford Royal Hospital’s site and crucially, gets the sickest patients to hospital even faster.
- You can be a part of a Trust with a team dedicated to training and educating clinicians of the future.
Main duties of the job
Aspects of the role will include :
- Unscheduled care of patients presenting to the ED with a broad spectrum of clinical conditions.
- Delivery of trauma care in the new trauma and resuscitation centre
- Morning ward rounds in the Emergency Village
- Shop floor clinical supervision of junior medical staff, Advanced Clinical Practitioners and nurse practitioners over the whole of the unscheduled care service.
- Participation in multi-disciplinary meetings related to direct patient care.
- Patient related administration including complaint handling, police statements and coroners’ reports.

Essential criteria
- Primary Medical Qualification (e.g. MBChB)
- Full registration with the General Medical Council
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
Experience & Clinical Skills

- Evidence of good organisation and leadership skills
