Job overview

We are pleased to invite applications for a Senior Clinical Fellow for a full-time role working 50% within Undergraduate Medical Education and 50% within Acute Medicine – Emergency Assessment Unit.  As a Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow, you will be a member of the Salford Royal Clinical Education Campus working across the Northern Care Alliance for a 12-monthperiod from the beginning of August and based within the Emergency Assessment Unit at Salford Royal.

 

You will be able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and support the Undergraduate Team with the delivery of the Medical Education Curriculum whilst also supporting the EAU team.  In return, you will benefit from the ability to develop your clinical examination teaching skills.

 

We are looking for somebody who has a particular interest in Medical Education and Acute Medicine, and we will put funding towards a 1 year PG Cert in Medical Education.

Main duties of the job

The primary educational focus in your role will be to implement, deliver and contribute to ongoing development of the University of Manchester MB ChB programme for Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 medical students at Salford Royal.  This will include working with Academic Year Leads, teaching Year 3 and Year 5 medical students in the clinical environment, teaching clinical examinations and supporting and assessing Undergraduate Practical Assessment Skills.

 

The post-holder will also support the leads with facilitating Patient Assessment Teaching and Themed Case Discussions and Communication Skills.

 

The post-holder will support the Hospital Dean, Undergraduate Tutors and the Head of Service of NCA Undergraduate Medical Education in ensuring that teaching not only meets the requirements of the evolving University of Manchester curriculum, but offers students outstanding educational experiences, that enhance their workplace learning.

 

Clinical responsibilities will be equivalent to those of a trainee at the same stage of training, based on evidenced competencies and be the responsibility of the clinical lead in the chosen specialty.

 

To be eligible for consideration it is essential that the post holder has a relevant clinical role ideally within the NHS, teaching experience and has full GMC registration with licence to practise at ST2 level & above.

 

Travel between sites will be required therefore a clean UK driving licence & own transport will be desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum of two years experience working within the NHS
  • Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and their relatives, and with other members of the multi- disciplinary team
  • Ability to work and make patient management decisions on own initiative, whilst seeking appropriate guidance from colleagues when required.
  • Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues, both medical and other disciplines
  • Able to demonstrate team leadership
  • Medical Teaching Experience
  • Evidence of UK or similar Undergraduate medical education system
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of engagement in quality improvement projects and knowledge of the QI process
  • Evidence of academic publications or poster presentations
  • Competent at chest drain, ascitic drain and lumbar puncture procedures
  • Evidence of developing teaching resources
