We are excited to be recruiting a fixed term (12 months) part time Band 8a Clinical/Counselling/Health Practitioner Psychologist within the Intestinal Failure team.

The successful applicant will join existing psychology teams in the provision of highly specialist psychological services to the IFU team at Salford Royal Hospital as part of the Clinical Health Psychology Department within Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.

This role will involve highly complex psychological assessment, formulation, and treatment of patients on an individual and group basis, multi-disciplinary working, consultancy work, liaison, research, teaching, training/supervision of trainee/assistant psychologists, nursing staff, and others.

 The role also includes assisting the Clinical Leads in service design and development of clinical pathways. You will do this by working in an evidence-based way, considering the link between both physical and mental health and according to best practice and professional guidelines

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

  • Work individually with outpatients including psychological assessment, formulation, design, monitoring, implementation and evaluation of therapeutic interventions for patients with complex medical and psychological needs, including high levels of long-term risk assessment and management. This work will be both face to face and remote (telephone/video).
  • Manage referrals and own caseload, making autonomous clinical decisions regarding the choice of assessment tools, psychological therapies and the design of individualised therapy programmes within level of expertise.
  • Make recommendations to surgical, medical and nursing colleagues regarding current and future psychological and clinical management.
  • Facilitate groups based on CBT and ACT principles if required.
  • There may be a requirement for inpatient work.
  • Work indirectly including liaising with colleagues and other professionals to promote a psychological perspective regarding patient care.
  • Provide consultancy, including liaising with multi-disciplinary colleagues, attending MDT meetings, and inter-agency working including attending multi professionals meetings.

Qualifications / Accreditation

  • Doctoral level training in Clinical, Counselling or Health Psychology.
  • HCPC registered
  • BSc Psychology (or equivalent recognised by BPS) and post-graduate doctorate training or statement of equivalence from BPS.

Experience

  • Experience of working in Clinical Health and/or Gastrointestinal Psychology Services.
  • An interest in working with people with chronic health conditions, especially gastrointestinal/renal diagnoses.
  • In addition to routine CPD and clinical supervision, the post holder must demonstrate working towards the ‘Highly Specialist’ criteria for further training and experience*.
  • Ability to effectively manage a workload of clinical cases and other professional responsibilities (teaching, MDT input, service development etc.).
  • High level of written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication for various audiences and convey complex or sensitive information.
Meini prawf dymunol
  • Training in approaches particularly valuable in health settings, such as ACT, CFT, EMDR, clinical hypnotherapy, including group-based approaches where appropriate.
  • Research experience or further doctoral training.
  • Experience of developing services and taking on other roles of increasing responsibility such as supervision of trainee clinical psychologists and development of specialist areas of working*.
  • Prior experience of research activity.
  • Understanding of risk assessment in medical settings, including assessment of risk in relation to medical non-compliance
  • Familiarity working with patients in a variety of ways including face to face and remotely.
