Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale NHS Talking Therapies is a highly successful multi-disciplinary site which is looking for a Band 7 CBT Therapist. We are a high-performing and innovative Primary Care psychological therapies site for one of the UK’s most diverse towns. Our base is 12 miles north-east of central Manchester, accessible in 15 minutes by public transport.

The service comprises 3 partners: Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust provides Step 3/3.5 NICE-recommended psychological therapies for common mental health problems. Big Life Group provides Gateway interventions, Step 2 interventions, Guided Self-Help and Counselling. Getting Help  gives practical interventions around housing, finance, health, wellbeing and sexuality.

Our service has been identified as one of the top-performing in the country at times over the last 7 years, and regularly achieves KPIs in excess of national averages while serving a diverse and disadvantaged population. We know that our teams and therapists add considerable value through what they do. We currently provide the majority of interventions online or via the telephone.

The post holder will provide the NICE-recommended models of cognitive-behavioural therapy for depression and the anxiety disorders in the Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale area. They will work closely with colleagues, Senior CBT therapist, Clinical Lead and Step 3/3.5 Service Manager in delivering these.

Swydd ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessment and formulation of patient’s difficulties before delivering trials of treatment and review in accordance with NICE guidelines for the common mental health disorders. They will provide effective treatment planning and delivery as per the most recent version of the IAPT manual, and Trust-wide Healthy Minds Ops policy.

The postholder will manage an independent caseload, book to achieve the required number of weekly contacts, and make good use of monthly line management/fortnightly clinical supervision.  They will provide weekly case consultations for Step 2 clinicians within HMR Talking Therapies on cases where there are doubts/uncertainties around suitability for brief CBT in this setting.

Education/Qualifications

  • CBT qualification from High Intensity IAPT Course (Post Graduate Diploma) or equivalent: e.g. A recorded / registered doctoral level qualification in clinical or counselling psychology / a recorded / registered qualification in one of the following - nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapy and a Post Graduate Diploma in CBT.
  • Significant experience working as a psychological therapy practitioner and demonstrating the competences to deliver CBT to clients with common mental health disorders as described by IAPT
  • Accredited with a professional accrediting and professional body e.g. BPS, UKCP, BABCP

  • Additional therapeutic intervention training
  • Trained in provision of supervision for CBT by having attended the IAPT supervisors course or a BABCP accredited supervisor course
  • EMDR qualification
  • IAPT further training e.g. IPT, DIT

Experience

  • A good understanding of common mental health conditions as defined by IAPT
  • Demonstrable knowledge of delivering CBT to clients who are referred into the service with common mental health conditions as described by IAPT
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of the issues surrounding employment and the impact it can have on mental health / benefits and employment systems

  • Previous experience of working within an IAPT service
  • Experience of delivering CBT within a group setting
  • Experience of delivering supervision

Knowledge

  • Understanding of common mental health conditions as defined by NHS Talking Therapies
  • Knowledge of delivering CBT to clients who are referred into the service with common mental health conditions as described by NHS Talking Therapies
  • Knowledge of issues surrounding employment and the impact it can have on mental health / benefits and employment systems
  • Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health conditions
  • A good understanding for the need to use evidence-based psychological therapies and how it relates to this post
  • Up to date working knowledge regarding Safeguarding Children and Adults
  • Demonstrable knowledge of clinical measures used within Talking Therapies services and knowledge of KPI’s

Skills and Abilities

  • Computer literate
  • Ability to communicate information effectively orally/in writing to clients, their families, carers and other professionals
  • Has received training in/carried out risk assessments within role of a CBT Therapist
  • Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients
