An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced Clinical Lead to join Oldham Liaison Mental Health Team  providing clinical leadership and operational management to the team.

The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and posts will be on a shift basis. 

This vacancy is to cover maternity leave until August 2025, **Fixed term contract / Secondment**

This is an exciting role for an individual who has proven team leadership experience and a genuine desire to influence and lead a dynamic team and help with service development within the emergency and urgent care mental health pathway.  The Liaison Mental Health Service in Oldham offers an all age liaison mental health support to the Emergency Department and general hospital wards.

The liaison mental health service offers a comprehensive range of mental health specialities within one multi-disciplinary team so that all patients with a suspected or actual mental health problem within the general hospital can be assessed, treated, signposted and referred appropriately regardless of age, presenting complaint, time of presentation or severity of condition. The service puts an emphasis on diversion and discharge from the emergency department and the facilitation of early and effective discharge from the acute hospital site.

Education and Qualifications

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with current registration
  • Completion of preparation for mentorship / practice teacher / fieldwork educator qualification or willingness to complete
  • Shor courses and experience to post graduate level

  • Registered general nurse / qualification related to physical health
  • Educated to degree level or working towards
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification
  • Formal teaching qualification

Experience

  • Substantial experience as a liaison mental health practitioner at band 6 or above
  • Experience of MDT working in mental health with complex cases
  • Experience of working to objectives and meeting deadlines, within a performance management framework
  • Experience of providing day-to-day clinical leadership and operational management
  • Experience of supervising junior staff
  • Experience of joint working with outside agencies

  • Experience of working in community settings
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Experience of managing / triaging referrals

Knowledge

  • Working knowledge of current mental health legislation and guidance in relation to safeguarding and vulnerable adults
  • Working knowledge of NICE guidance in the treatment of mental health problems
  • Knowledge of mental health / risk management processes
  • Be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of clients presenting with physical and mental health co-morbidity issues
  • Overview and knowledge of the range of interventions and services that meet the needs of all services users referred to the mental health service including those with dementia, delirium, functional illnesses, self-harm and substance misuse
  • Be competent in developing and delivering training packages relating to mental health
  • Display a good understanding of clinical governance and quality improvement

Work Related Circumstances

  • Must be flexible and able to work within a 7 day service and upto 8pm including bank holidays
  • Use of a car or access to a means of mobility to travel across the trust footprint in line with service needs
  • Willing to carry out all duties and responsibilities of the post in accordance with the trusts equal opportunities and equality and diversity policies
  • Appointments to be regulated and controlled activities require and enhanced DBS disclosure
