Living Well teams include senior mental health practitioners, mental health wellbeing practitioners, a service manager, consultant psychiatrist, and a balanced complement of VCSE staff.  

The Living Well team provides a wrap-around service for people in the community experiencing mental health difficulties; we work closely with our GP colleagues, ensuring timely support is offered to people in need of holistic support and treatment.

The Medical Secretary will support the MDT and be responsible for coordinating the secretarial and administrative support for the consultant psychiatrist in addition to offering administrative support to the Living Well team.  The post holder will be expected to manage their own workload, coordinating their activities to ensure that an efficient service is provided. 

You will be joining a supportive, highly experienced team and will share our commitment to delivering a high-quality service to the people with whom we work. 

You'll be a personable team-player, highly organised, efficient, with a willingness to share your skills and expertise to enhance patient experience by providing expert administrative support to the consultant and other team members.

To provide personal secretarial assistance to the consultant psychiatrist and other team  members.

Able to work unsupervised and manage own workload, exercising the highest standard of confidentiality using independent judgement and initiative, based on acquired knowledge and experience, demonstrating influence and composure when working under pressure and to strict guidelines.

To manage the diary of the consultant psychiatrist and other team members and to be responsible for planning and coordinating day to day activities by scheduling meetings, appointments and clinical commitments.

To assist in managing and maintaining the departmental systems ensuring accuracy of all data that supports the delivery of clinical services. 

To work closely with the Living Well administrator to ensure the seamless and timely transfer/sharing of information between team members and colleagues working in the Primary Care Networks / GP surgeries.

Responsible for co-ordinating the secretarial and administrative support for Oldham Living Well. The post holder will be expected to manage their own workload with the consultant and supporting medical team and coordinate their activities to ensure that an efficient service is provided.

The post holder will be flexible and use their own initiative to organise their workload, dependent on priorities and requirements at that time.

The postholder will primarily be based at Maple House, though some travel across the Oldham district may be required on occasion.

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • ECDL training or equivalent
  • AMSPAR qualification or equivalent experience and knowledge of required terminology
  • NVQ Level 4 qualification or equivalent experience/knowledge

Experience

  • Previous NHS experience
  • Previous experience in an administrative and supervisory role
  • Experience of dealing with complex inquiries that require signposting to services or facilitation of a resolution
  • Experience in managing and prioritising own workload effectively
  • Experience of supervising staff
  • Experiencing of liaising with a wide range of external agencies, e.g. Courts, Prisons
