Job overview

The Northern Care Alliance has a vacancy for a Consultant Radiologist with Gastrointestinal or Genito-Urinary imaging experience/training to support and develop the radiology service. The post holder is required to have full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid licence to practice and be on the specialist register for Radiology or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent.

We welcome sub-specialty interests in GI/GU imaging and encourage any interested candidates to contact the Directorate team for further discussion.  The successful candidates will be expected to participate in MDT and the general work of the department including general diagnostic radiology on call.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be a radiologist with particular interest in gastrointestinal imaging. Interest in intervention is welcome but not essential. The successful candidate will have a primary base at The Royal Oldham Hospital, Fairfield General Hospital or Rochdale Infirmary.

The successful candidate will contribute to the general diagnostic work of the department, including on call. Home workstations are provided for protected daytime reporting and remote review of on call imaging. Consultants are expected to provide prospective cover for annual and study leave.  Outsourcing of reporting occurs overnight.

The post holder will be expected to work closely with other consultants and members of the wider multi-disciplinary team to support and develop services.

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council with a valid license to practice (or demonstrates eligibility to apply for registration and license)
  • Inclusion on the Specialist Register / Admission to the Register within 6 months of interview (CCST or CCT in Radiology (or within six months of entitlement)

Essential Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary medical qualification (e.g. MBChB)
  • FRCR or show evidence of equivalent training and experience
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate Degree e.g. MRCP, FRCR
  • Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Wide experience in Radiology, with subspecialty skills appropriate to the post
  • Broad experience in the management of all aspects of Radiology
  • Good understanding of Clinical Governance
  • Evidence of audit work and where this has brought about change
  • Evidence of participation in research
Desirable criteria
  • Research Skills: Publication of research articles, demonstrating understanding of research methodology and commitments
  • Evidence of relevant peer reviewed papers and other publications (e.g. book chapter, book editor, case report – not abstracts or letters)

Teamwork

  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective teams
  • Positive attitude towards members of the wider healthcare team
  • Evidence of good Organisational and leadership skills
  • Evidence of development and management of change

Communication

Essential criteria
  • Is empathetic and sensitive to patients needs
  • Able to explain things clearly – particularly complex or sensitive information
  • Is able to influence and persuade effectively
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues which could be demonstrated by one of the following: (1) that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or (2) have the following scores in the academic international English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 6, Reading 6, Writing 6. (3) Occupational English Test (OET) certificate it must show: (4) you took the medicine version of the test (5) you got at least a grade ‘B’ in each testing area (speaking, listening, reading and writing)
  • However, if applicants believe that they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of the above examples they need to provide evidence.
  • Demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013)
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills in order to be able to write & present reports at board level

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Experience of teaching juniors, medical students and other health care professionals
  • Proven teaching abilities
Desirable criteria
  • Attendance at teaching course All consultants are required to be trained as GMC recognised clinical supervisors and educational supervisors. If an applicant doesn’t have these qualification then they are required to obtain as below 1. CS within 6 months of joining the trust. 2. ES within 12 months of joining the trust.

Other

Essential criteria
  • Private residence within 30 minutes or ten miles from principle pace of work
  • Satisfactory Work Health Assessment
  • Appropriate Home Office status to undertake a career post in the UK
