We are delighted to be able to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Paediatric nurse who has a passion in providing exemplary, evidence-based care to Children and Young People and is driven to improving quality standards in line with local and national standards. Please note: this is a 22.5 hour per week, fixed term post for 12 months. Secondments will be considered with prior agreement from your line manager. 

The post offers many opportunities to develop and shape the service, in addition to contributing to the senior nursing management across Paediatrics. As a  Sister or Charge Nurse with a special interest in Patient Safety you will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication and organisational skills as well as leading and influencing change. You will be motivated to make a positive difference to the child, family and staff experience

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your nursing leadership skills and to share your wealth of knowledge, skills and experience in the care of children and young people who require care in any area of the Paediatric footprint. You will be supported by our leadership team in your own development with a bespoke 4 week induction to support your transition into the role. 

 

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work as part of the wider Band 6 leadership team and will be responsible for the delivery of clinical care and the monitoring and supporting Patient Safety. The post-holder will have a specific focus on the roll out and implementation of the new Paediatric National Early Warning System within our acute Paediatric services. The post holder will also deliver evidence based, high quality clinical nursing care with designated responsibility for supporting the Paediatric Critical Care Audit. 

Working autonomously during protected audit time, the post holder will be responsible for supporting the Paediatric Critical Care Team in providing comprehensive and efficient collection, analysis and input of high-quality coding and clinical data for critical care. As a Sister / Charge Nurse with a special interest in Patient Safety you will work closely with the Paediatric Practice Educators to develop these skills in our wider paediatric nursing and medical workforce.

You will provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff in the delivery of evidence-based practice. You will actively support the Ward / Unit Manager in the effective running of the department including in their absence.

We are fortunate to have a beautifully designed, bright and spacious unit incorporating Paediatric Inpatients, Critical Care, Surgery and a Paediatric Observation and Assessment area. We have a large playroom and outdoor play area as well as a sensory room and facilities for young people to spend time away from their bed-space. Our Community Teams provide a range of nursing services both in the clinic setting and in children's own homes, working collaboratively with our therapies teams to maximise opportunity for children and young people.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

  • Degree / diploma in nursing studies (or equivalent nursing qualification and experience)
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
Desirable criteria
  • Change Management / Quality Improvement Qualification
  • Evidence of involvement in teaching / learning / Development of others

Knowledge, Skills + Experience

Essential criteria
  • Communicates succinctly, clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing
  • Be an effective team member who is able to relate to colleagues at all levels of the Trust with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to coordinate your workload and supervise members of the team, ensuring high quality, safe and effective patient care
  • Demonstrates evidence based clinical knowledge
  • Experience in participating in Quality Improvement projects
  • Involvement in Audits and evaluation of results
  • Demonstrate proactive problem solving
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration experience in an acute paediatric nursing
  • Experience of the use in clinical systems
  • Current APLS certification
