Job overview

The post holder will act as the Lead Specialist in education and practice development issues within the Maternity Service, supporting other members of the team including, ward managers, Lead Midwives, Divisional Director of Midwifery, Divisional Manager and Maternity Service Managers in the development and delivery of high standards of women and family focussed, evidence-based care.  You will act as a resource for clinical expertise and maintain clinical skills by undertaking regular 1:1 clinical practice supporting members of the team.

 

 

 

Main duties of the job

You will have the leading role for the Maternity Practice Development team to support, develop and deliver a co-ordinated and systematic approach to practice development and establishing evidence into practice. This role will involve some cross cover and working across all sites.

In addition, you will contribute towards the management of the Maternity Inpatient / Outpatient wards and services by providing professional leadership and support.  Actively promote practice and educational development at ward/departmental and community level.

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

The NCA can no longer accept applications from International Nurses and Midwives who are yet to complete all competencies needed to receive a full NMC PIN to practice in the UK as we have paused our OSCE programme indefinitely. Knowledge, Training and Experience

  • Evidence of student education/supervision in midwifery through practice and/or education
  • Current maternity clinical experience simulation training
  • Demonstrate an interest in governance
  • Demonstrates an awareness of change management
  • Good IT and presentation skills
  • Awareness of current issues in midwifery and nursing
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of professional/specialist clinical and managerial leadership expertise
  • Teaching experience in higher education and/or other settings
  • Substantial post registration experience
  • Has attended the General Instructor Course for Neonatal Life Support or has been nominated to attend
  • Has attended a CTG masterclass
