Job overview

Gynaecology within The Royal Oldham Hospital has dynamic services of an inpatient ward, a gynaecology assessment and early pregnancy unit along with gynaecology outpatients.

We are looking to recruit Health Care Assistants working across all gynaecology services, providing clinical support to assist registered nurses in the assessment, planning and delivery of care to patients.  Shifts patterns are over 7 days covering days and nights. 

Gynaecology provide and excellent opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge across a variety of our services as you are expected to work across all areas under direct supervision from registered members of staff. 

After appropriate training you will undertake physiological observations, venepunture and cannulation, 12 lead ECGs, triaging, and accurately record findings and refer information to a trained nurse.  Also opportunities to assist in Outpatients with hysteroscopy and colposcopy procedures providing a varied specialised care.

Main duties of the job

  • Establish and maintain communication with people about routine and daily activities overcoming any differences in communication between the people involved.
  • Develop own skills and knowledge and provide information to others to help their development.
  • Monitor and maintain health, safety and security of self and others in own work area.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing services.
  • Ensure own actions help to maintain quality.
  • Ensure own actions support equality, diversity and rights.
  • Assist in assessing people’s health and wellbeing and related needs.
  • Assist in planning, delivering and evaluating programmes to meet people’s health and wellbeing needs.
  • Assist in the application of technology for measurement, monitoring and treatment.
  • Undertake delegated responsibilities from registered staff as appropriate.
  • After appropriate training undertake clinical observations of care and accurately record findings and refer information on to the trained nurse.
  • After appropriate training undertake 12 lead ECG recording.
  • After appropriate training undertake venepuncture.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Care Certificate
  • Level 1 Literacy and numeracy (GCSE English & maths Grade D-G)
  • NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or a Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship- or equivalent experience

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good organisational skills
  • Good communication (written and verbal skills)
  • Basic IT skills

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as a Care support worker or equivalent in a Health or Social Care setting
  • Experience of Working with a team
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates an interest or previous experience in supporting other health care staff and learners
