Nurse Endoscopist

Band 8a

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Nurse Endoscopist to join the expanding Nurse Endoscopy team at the Northern Care Alliance (NCA).

With a base at The Royal Oldham Hospital, the successful candidate will undertake Endoscopy lists at the newly opened Oldham Community Diagnostic Centre, as well as at The Royal Oldham Hospital, Fairfield General & Rochdale Infirmary.

This role requires an independent practitioner, who will provide advanced clinical expertise and pathway management knowledge.

The Nurse Endoscopist will work independently as an expert practitioner, performing endoscopic procedures (Gastroscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy and/or Colonoscopy) with or without sedation on a selected patient group.  Applicants who are single modality trained are welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

As part of this role, you will undertake consent, assessment, diagnosis and treatment of individuals undergoing an endoscopic procedure.

You will act as an expert in nursing within Gastroenterology services, providing an autonomous diagnostic endoscopic service to an identified patient group, in the form of Gastroscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy and Colonoscopy.

You will support junior medical staff and other members of the team in providing a quality service to Gastroenterology patients and patients attending endoscopy. You will develop standards of best practice, protocols and patient group directions in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, supporting the risk management process across all sites within the Northern Care Alliance portfolio. You will support audit and research within our area of practice.
