Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a permanent part time (22.5 hours per week) Band 6 high risk podiatrist within the Manchester Local Care Organisation. We are looking seek to appoint an enthusiastic and highly motivated podiatrist to join our friendly podiatry team based in the community. The role will focus on the management of the complex patient at risk of developing foot ulcers or those who have a foot ulcer and include vascular assessment, off loading (including MSK assessment). There will also be an element of other clinics such as rapid access clinics. This service is integrated with the hospital diabetes and vascular team which the podiatry team support on a weekly and monthly basis, rotations into the specialist acute clinics will also form part of this role.
We are looking for a forward-thinking high risk podiatrist with a minimum of 2 years post graduate experience to provide high quality care to our patients who have or are risk of developing foot ulcers. If any candidate feels they don’t currently have the required skills we are prepared to offer this position as a progression post from a Band 5 to a Band 6 on completion of the necessary competencies.
Care is delivered in various settings including community clinics, out-patient clinics and patient's homes so a car owner driver is essential.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
1. To diagnose foot / lower limb problems for referred patients with a wide range of clinical needs
2. To initiate, monitor and evaluate courses of treatment following assessment.
4. To undertake minor surgery
5. To work alongside specialist podiatrists caring for high risk patients with complex needs
7. To ensure referral to other services are expedited quickly
8. To follow departmental policies / guidelines but have the discretion to make own clinical judgement and diagnosis within professional boundaries.
9. To make direct referrals to x-ray / pathology as assessed as necessary to provide effective care.
10. To prescribe and fit foot and shoe orthoses as part of a care package and review progress.
11. To participate in foot health education to both patients, carers and other staff groups
12. To decide when specialised equipment is required to achieve the greatest level of clinical effectiveness.
13. To assess circumstances where local anaesthetic should be administered to treat a highly painful condition and decide on the dosage and best positioning of the agent in order that the minimal volume is effective.
14. To practice minute dissection on lesions where there is narrow margin for error on patients who have poor circulation, tremor or skin conditions.
15. To decide when a patient has reached their maximum potential for rehabilitation and discharge with a self-help plan
