Job overview

We are looking for an experienced communications professional, with honed communications skills and the ability to hit the ground running.

As Head of Communications, you will be strategic and hands on, supporting and guiding our leaders in delivering excellent communications for our colleagues, patients, service users and their families.

Main duties of the job

Working with one other Heads of Communications and a Deputy Head of Communications you will need in-depth media handling competence, internal communications exemplar skills, marketing, digital and stakeholder experience.

The post holder reports to the NCA Director of Communications and Fundraising and has responsibility, as part of the Communications Senior Leadership Team, for the delivery of the Group communications functions, supporting our Care Organisations a supporting NCA functions and services to meet the needs of our people and the patients and populations we serve. The post holder will lead the delivery of communications for our colleagues, patients, partners and wider stakeholders.

The Head of Communications is responsible for highly complex, timely, clear, efficient, strategic and operational communications to internal and external audiences. The Head of Communications will develop and implement integrated marketing, communications, branding and reputation management initiatives, consistent with the NCAs objectives and priorities. They will lead a multi-disciplinary team to provide technical advice and guidance on appropriate communications solutions.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent level of experience
  • Additional management or specialist communications qualification at post graduate level or equivalent level of experience
  • Evidence of continuous professional and personal development
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and / or Institute of Public Relations

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant communications experience at a senior management level
  • Experience in media relations of a proactive or reactive nature
  • Experience of managing a service and budget management
  • Knowledge and experience of devising, formulating and implementing communications strategies and plans
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in a Group structure and across organisational boundaries
