Highly Specialist Pain Nurse

Band 7

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Registered Nurse to join the Manchester Foundation Trust (MFT) pain service. The MFT pain service is a well-established multidisciplinary team incorporating the roles of highly skilled nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, and pain consultants across the spectrum of acute and chronic pain.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS Acute Hospital Trusts in the UK, comprising ten hospitals and a multitude of local, regional and national clinical services. The Trust is a major tertiary referral centre for medical and surgical specialties. Clinical & Scientific Services provides services to support these including the Manchester Adult Inpatient Pain Management Service.

This post will be predominantly based at Wythenshawe hospital, within the outpatient chronic pain service.  However, as the inpatient and outpatient services work closely together, support and advise may be required across all aspects of the service.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have the dual responsibilities of a highly specialist nurse within the field of pain management, as well as act as unit manager for the outpatient and day case services currently based at Wythenshawe Hospital. The successful candidate will work alongside the multidisciplinary team to develop and deliver excellent care for patients experiencing persistent non-malignant pain.   They will require an aptitude for teaching and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a solid knowledge base and clinical skills in pain management. A non-medical prescribing qualification is essential for this role so the ideal candidate will either currently meet this criteria or have a willingness to undertake this. The post holder will also have operational responsibilities of the  outpatient services and interventional suite, including line management and scheduling duties. They will need to be flexible, self-motivated and be able to work independently as well as part of a team. Their on-going professional development will be actively encouraged and supported.
