Job overview

The post-holder must work well within a team, and will be responsible for the technical training of all grades of staff in specified areas of expertise. The post-holder will also be expected to participate in the out of hours on call rota (24/7; 365 days pa) after relevant training.

This technical role will also include a responsibility for stock control and laboratory equipment. Further study towards relevant qualifications will be encouraged.

Main duties of the job

To provide highest quality, complex technical and analytical support for organ, tissue and cell transplantation and immunogenetics based laboratory services. The post holder will carry out technical, analytical and administrative tasks delivering to national and locally accepted standards (UKAS, EFI) with appropriate supervisory support. They will have responsibility for technical training of all grades of staff in specified areas of expertise and will ensure that all laboratory equipment is appropriate for use and purpose and is effectively maintained.

The post holder will provide scientific support in the areas of crossmatching, HLA antibody screening, molecular typing and chimaerism monitoring in rotation with other Band 5 Senior Technologists. They will participate in the On Call rota supporting a Clinical Scientist by performing antibody screening, crossmatching and HLA typing.
