North Manchester General Hospital is inviting applications for the position of Senior Locally Employed Doctor  in General Medicine,

We are building a strong General Medical team to provide safe, excellent care to our inpatients and are looking for strong and invested  colleagues to join our friendly, patient focused team.

The post holder will be participate in the day-to-day care of elective and emergency patients and will work with and liaise with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team to ensure an appropriate and processional timely provision of care to patients across the General Medicine Division.

  • The post holder is therefore required to have full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid licence to practice

Our hospital is undergoing major investment with a new hospital campus build in planning with an anticipated completion date of 2030. Our new, modern hospital will be provide a wonderful environment in which to provide the best care possible to patients and the our teams are encouraged to engage in its function and design, this will be an exciting time to join us.

Main duties of the job

Support consultants and Juniors in all department activities. Take responsibility for in-patient work.

  Participate in ward rounds.

   Undertake research/audit/quality improvement projects.

  Participate in the clinical response team rota.

  Other duties as may be identified to meet the needs of the service Cover for colleagues during periods of absence.

   Support in-patient care in conjunction with departmental colleagues

 Teaching duties as required and take an active part in the Postgraduate Medical Education programme and in the teaching of junior medical & nursing staff, General Practitioners and other clinical professions.

 

Take part in department, regional and national audits.

   Development of the service using Quality Improvement Methodology

Registration

Essential criteria
  • Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Demonstration of acquisition of the level of knowledge and skills necessary for the completion of foundation training or equivalent training and experience
  • Evidence of completion of formal hands-on training in Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Evidence of achievement of ST3/4 or equivalent competencies in Medicine
  • Completion of MRCP
Desirable criteria
  • Completion of other postgraduate qualification

Knowledge Skills & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of the workings of the NHS
  • Demonstration of acquisition of the level of knowledge and skills necessary for the completion of foundation training or equivalent training and experience
  • Proven Ability to take clinical history & undertake examination
  • Good organisational skills & time management
  • Use of evidence-based practice
  • Participation in quality improvement projects
  • Understanding of clinical governance
  • Information technology skills
Desirable criteria
  • Research Experience
  • Experience of working within General Medicine in the NHS
  • Demonstrates an interest in Medical Speciality Training
  • Teaching Achievement (including attendance at teaching, Courses etc.

Communication

Essential criteria
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients & colleagues as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). This could be demonstrated by one of the following
  • Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English
  • Have the following scores academic international English Language Testing System (IELTS) Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 6, Reading 6, Writing 6
  • Occupational English Test (OET) Certificate which must show you took the medicine version of the test
  • you got at least a grade B in each testing area (Speaking, Listening, reading & Writing)
  • Empathetic & Sensitive to patients needs
  • Able to explain things clearly particularly complete or sensitive information
  • Able to influence and persuade effectively

Essential criteria
  • The applicant must demonstrate appropriate professional behaviour i.e. integrity, honesty, confidentiality as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013)
  • Capacity to take responsibility for own actions and demonstrate a nonjudgmental approach towards others
