We assist over 150 adults throughout the UK in every facet of their daily lives and mental health recovery journey. At present, our services extend across the Northwest, Cumbria, Yorkshire, and the Midlands.

The Finance Assistant will ensure the smooth operation of the organisation's payroll. They will oversee the gathering of data to be submitted to external accountants for processing. The role involves developing and sustaining effective relationships with onsite teams to guarantee the reliability, accuracy, and timeliness of information flows. Additionally, they will offer support to the broader finance team, including Procurement, Sales, and Purchase Ledger.

Main duties of the job

This Finance role is diverse with an emphasis on Payroll, involving:

•    Gathering monthly payroll data from various sites within the organization.
•    Keeping records up-to-date with current details – new hires, departures, pension plans.
•    Verifying that submissions such as overtime, expenses, bonuses, etc., have received proper authorization.
•    Examining pay cycle data to detect and correct any discrepancies, mistakes, or inefficiencies.
•    Detecting and informing your Line Manager of any overpayments or underpayments, providing adequate proof.
•    Managing the Payroll inbox to address and resolve inquiries promptly, ensuring stakeholders receive professional and courteous service.
•    Building and sustaining relationships with internal and external teams to guarantee dependable, precise, and timely information exchange.
•    Serving as a contact for payroll-related questions and handling any spontaneous payroll tasks.
•    Assisting the broader finance team on an ad hoc basis in various areas – Procurement, Sales Ledger/Credit Control, and Purchase Ledger.
•    Performing miscellaneous duties as needed.

Qualifications, experience and attributes

Essential criteria
  • Professional qualification or studying towards Finance/ Accounting of level 2 of AAT qualification or equivalent
  • Excellent Knowledge of Excel /Windows Office software applications including: SharePoint, Excel, word (ECDL desirable)
  • Minimum of 2 year’s experience in Finance role with some sales ledger/ credit control exposure
  • Experience with accounting software and have a good level of excel spreadsheet knowledge. (experience using SAGE desirable)
  • Previous experience of accounts payable, allocations and reconciliation
