Senior Nurse - Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Job overview

Due to the merger with North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH) Gastroenterology Unit with Manchester Royal Infirmary, this post is to continue to build up the IBD nurse service and NMGH to cover maternity leave,and  provide cross clinical and managerial cover between Manchester Royal Infirmary, Wythenshawe and North Manchester as required. The post holder will be based at NMGH. The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical leadership for the IBD teams and supporting service excellence for patient care. The post holder will inspire a culture of compassionate care for IBD patients. S/he will be accountable for the professional practice and development of IBD nursing and patient care.The post holder will have expert specialist knowledge and provide clinical advice and support for patients with IBD. 

Main duties of the job

  • Develop the IBD service in collaboration with the Lead IBD gastroenterology consultant and team.  
  • To develop and lead on the IBD nurse- lead service – the nurses will be a key point of contact for both existing IBD patients, and newly diagnosed patients.
  • To further develop nurse led clinics, such as a virtual clinic for those patients who are on biological treatment, new patient clinics
  • Responsible for maintaining and developing effective joint working relationships with nursing and medical colleagues across three hospitals, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Wythenshawe Hospital and North Manchester Hospital

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Relevant professional qualification RGN
  • Educated to degree level
  • Non-medical Prescribing Qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 5 years post registration experience within gastroenterology
  • 5 years’ experience within inflammatory bowel disease nursing

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Competent in use of IT packages such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
