Job overview
Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to make a full time appointment for a Speciality Doctor to work in the well-established Mental Health Liaison Team based at Fairfield Hospital Bury. This is a substantive appointment. The appointee will have a role in consolidating the developments that have occurred within this service recently helping the service continue to develop in order to meet the ‘Core 24’ standards defined by the Department of Health.
Main duties of the job
These include clinical, liaison, educational, managerial and service evaluation roles. Clinical work will include assessment and interventions with patients in the Acute Trust and involve working with an expanding multidisciplinary liaison mental health team. The team will promote the development of skills in this area within the Acute Trust and pathway development.
Working for our organisation
The post holder will join the existing consultant liaison psychiatrists and liaison mental health team with the aim of improving the standard of care provided to acute Trust patients. There will be close links with the liaison mental health developments across both Pennine Care and Greater Manchester.
This is an exciting time to join the Trust and there are opportunities to contribute to the organisations’ development including service redesign involving more integrated models of person centred care for our local community. Bury has a very strong teaching commitment and the post holder will be expected to contribute to the teaching of both mental health and non-mental health staff. There are close links to ongoing research projects within the service and academic links are encouraged.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Criterias
Essential criteria
- EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS MBChB or equivalent. Section 12 Approval or a willingness to seek approval.
- SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE Good Interpersonal and team working skills. Leadership skills. Knowledge of relevant requirements and legislation such as the Mental Health Act, Care Programme Approach etc
- EXPERIENCE A minimum of 4 years post graduate experience, at CT, ST or Staff Grade level Experience relevant to working Age Psychiatry. Experience of teaching and training.
- MOTIVATION AND ATTITUDE Flexible and able to adapt. Enthusiastic and willing to contribute to the running of the department in a forward thinking can do attitude.
Desirable criteria
- MRCPsych or equivalent Registered as completed Higher Training with the Royal College of Psychiatrists Progress towards additional Post Graduate Degree, such as MSc. or MD.
- An additional area of relevant special interest e.g. ECT. Actively involved in continuing professional development
- Experience of management. Experience of service development and planning. Experience of Forensic or Intensive Care services. Worked for a total of 10 years since primary qualification (which is acceptable by GMC for full/limited or temporary registration).
- Demonstrated initiative and innovation. Further personal professional development.
