Locum Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine

Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals to join our dedicated & Cohesive team of Consultant Intensivists to work in Intensive Care Medicine as part of the transformation of the Critical Care Service. The Anaesthetic department will deliver elective anaesthesia sessions - this role will work within  Northern Care Alliance Foundation Trust.

(Primarily based at Fairfield Hospital and Salford Royal Hospital, with possibility of some activity at other sites)

We invite applications both from doctors completing their training in ICM and anaesthesia and from established consultants looking for new challenges to further develop their already successful careers. 

As part of the transformation of Critical Care, there is an emphasis on delivering a sustainable & motivated workforce, recognising that a good work-life balance is of paramount importance. As such, we welcome applications from candidates who may wish to work less than full time.

All applicants must be included on the Specialist Register or be currently training in ICM and be eligible to be included on the specialist register within 6 months of the interview 
date.

The successful applicant will be provided the opportunity to undertake a split job role within a parent speciality where supported . A 10PA contract will have 8 PA for DCC and 2 for SPA activity.

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the functioning of the service, and will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients and the running of the clinical department.

  • To be formally recognized as Clinical Supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards

  • To be formally recognized as Educational Supervisor as defined by the GMC Trainer Standards

Clinical Knowledge & Expertise

  • Experience of working in a large ICU in an NHS hospital as part of a recognized training program.
  • Experience in the management of critically ill patients with a wide range of disease processes
  • Evidence of recent management of critically ill patients with neurological conditions particularly head injury and sub-arachnoid hemorrhage
  • Evidence of continuing personal and professional development and keeps up-to-date with medical advances.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the core legal, ethical and political issues which govern medical practice
  • Understanding of the management responsibilities of NHS Consultants

  • Experience of recent and current research/ relevant publications.
  • Evidence of management activity during training.
  • Formal leadership qualification
  • Understanding of relationship between local initiatives and national policy. Evidence of experience in quality improvement
