Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and innovative Health Care Assistant to join our busy team, in Bury Dermatology ICAT.

We are a part of The Dermatology Centre at Salford Care Organisation, which offers a full range of dermatology services and is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. Our specialist services include:

  • Dermatological Surgery
  • General Dermatology clinics
  • Skin Cancer services
  • Acne clinics
  • UVB
  • Telederm and photography

Your job role will involve supporting our Teledermatology pathway within our new image capture clinic and working in the above areas supporting clinical staff members to ensure the smooth running of the department.

Your main work base will be Bury Dermatology ICAT but you will be expected to work across sites when required.

Every year the Dermatology Centre cares for approximately 13,000 new outpatients with a further 26,000 follow up appointments. We aim to provide the highest achievable standards of care as a part of this great team.

Main duties of the job

You will be a motivated team player with a flexible attitude. Ideally you will have knowledge/ experience in Dermatology.

You will be required to work your hours flexibly (Mon-Fri 8am-7pm) with possible weekend work. Shifts reflect clinical activity and service demands and are usually 4 or 8 hours long (eg: 8.30-5 or 8.30-12.30/ 1-5). Whilst your main work base is at Radcliffe,  you will be expected to work across sites.

This exciting new job role will involve supporting our new image capture clinic under Specialist Nurse supervision. This will involve the ability to greet and signpost patients, assisting with questionnaires, and undertaking photography of lesions. Chaperoning in clinics, assisting in minor surgery, venepuncture, basic observations, and cleaning will also be undertaken, as well as stock ordering and helping to supervise junior staff.

We are looking for a person who can communicate well with staff and patients alike. This should be someone who takes pride in their work and strives to enhance the patient experience with their knowledge and skills.

The successful candidate will be supported by the registered nurses and the Band 3 HCA already in post.

Skills & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good communication (written and verbal skills)
  • Basic IT skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to travel to different geographical locations across the Trust footprint in line with service needs
Desirable criteria
  • Full UK driving license with willingness to use own car for work purposes

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working as a Care Support Worker or equivalent in a Health or Social care setting
  • Experience of working within a team
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates an interest or previous experience in supporting other health care staff and learners
  • Commitment to undertaking continuous professional development (CPD)

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or a Level 3 Senior Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship - or equivalent experience
  • Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy (GCSE English and Maths Grade D-G)
  • Care Certificate
