Chest Pain Specialist Nurse

We are looking to recruit a Chest Pain Specialist Nurse to join our established rapid access chest pain team supporting the North East Sector of the Northern Care Alliance.
The expectation of the successful candidate is to work autonomously as a specialist nurse practitioner to provide highly specialist assessment of patients presenting to the Rapid Access Chest Pain service with stable chest pain to facilitate early diagnosis, investigation, and treatments.
In mainly a Non-Medical clinic setting, formulate a diagnosis, order, and interpret cardiology investigations and develop a patient management plan in line with local and national guidelines underpinned by evidence-based practice.
Work flexibly between the acute trust and community and collaborate with the wider multidisciplinary team. Liaise with your Cardiologist clinical support supervisor in partnership with the chest pain team.
The post holder will hold a Non-Medical Prescriber qualification and work within Scope of Practice, a L7 clinical assessment qualification is expected.
Engage in training and development, imparting specialist knowledge, advice and training in relation to the assessment and management of chest pain due to underlying coronary artery disease and other cardiology conditions and presentations.
You will be required to actively support research, audit, triage, training, and the development of the Chest Pain Service.

Contribute to the development and co-ordination of the
Chest Pain specialist nurse service collaboratively with managers.
Lead Rapid Access Chest Pain clinics using highly specialised,
advanced clinical consultation skills, assessment and physical
examination skills to establish a diagnosis of patients presenting
to the Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic with Chest Pain/ CHD/ ACS.
Lead Chest Pain clinics and subsequently manage the cardiac patient
through the patient pathway, referring onto other specialists as
required.
Possess highly specialised technological skill to interpret results of
invasive and non-invasive investigations.
Be responsible and accountable to interpret and act on clinical
information in the form of invasive and non- invasive
investigation results.
Non –Medical prescribing within Scope of Practice, professional
legislation, and NCA Policy.
Evaluate patient’s condition and response to the therapeutic
interventions and treatment modalities and modify the plan of care
for optimal patient outcomes.
Responsible for managing a patient caseload of those patients
requiring follow up care and terminating the care episode following
safe discharge of the patient from the Chest Pain service.
Audit practice as required.
Contribute to research projects as requested.
Provide education and training supporting the multidisciplinary team
in the management of patients who present with chest pain, have
underlying coronary heart disease or differential diagnosis or ACS.

Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.

- Nursing Degree

- ENB Critical care nursing or Coronary Care qualification

- Willingness to work towards Masters level degree (health related
- Hold Clinical assessment certificate L7

Training, Knowledge and experience

- Significant years post-registration experience in a cardiology/critical care environment
- Experience of teaching in clinical skills
- Good communication skills (written & verbal)
- Wide-ranging in-depth knowledge of clinical issues in CHD, Acute Coronary Syndromes, angina management and their treatment
- Excellent ECG interpretation skills.
- Good organisational and time management skills
- Experience of clinical audit.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in the application of research to practice.
- Willingness to undertake relevant further study as required for the post.
- Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of coronary heart disease and issues relating to the management of the cardiac patient
- Understanding of Clinical Governance and Health & Safety issues
