Job overview

The  service you'll be working as part of  a specialist psychological team that provides timely and effective mental health support for health and care staff working in Greater Manchester who have been affected by critical incidents or traumatic events in the workplace

The service is for all health and care staff working in Greater Manchester – including all NHS colleagues; North-West Ambulance Service - GM only; primary care, local authorities*, care homes and social care providers, VCSE (those working in the health and care sector)

You will provide specialist psychological support following work based trauma. You will  also support health and care staff to mitigate the impact of work place trauma. 

 

Main duties of the job

You will provide specialist support for health and care staff who have experienced critical incidents or traumatic events at work. 

Your job plan will include: 

  • Delivery of consultations with managers, leaders and the system to help mitigate the impact of work based trauma. 
  • One-to-one assessment formulation and trauma therapy for health and care staff affected by work based trauma. 
  • Provide workshops and reflective spaces following a work based trauma or helping team reduce effects of work  based trauma.

This service provision can will take place face to face across GM,  as well as some sessions taking place online.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To work with  health and care staff  in GM impacted by traumatic work based events.

To provide assessments for specialist psychological interventions/individual therapy based on complex data from a variety of sources to clients of the Hub. Sources of data include: observations, self-report measures, semi-structured interviews with clients, their families and other professionals involved in the client’s care

To formulate plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of clients presenting issues, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s problems and support professionals in navigating mental health systems to facilitate access to the required services both within Greater Manchester and across the UK

 

To participate as a senior clinician in the development of a high quality, responsive and accessible service, including advising both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.

 

To facilitate increased psychological awareness, particularly in relation to trauma, across a range of services by supporting professionals to recognise and address psychological wellbeing need. 

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Doctorate in Clinical/Counselling Psychology and registration with the Health Professions Council OR Core professional qualification (eg, RMN, social worker) plus Accredited in NICE approved psychological intervention (eg CBT, EMDR) OR BABCP accredited CBT/therapist with additional training in for example EMDR/DBT
  • Training in the supervision of psychological therapists and/or other professionals within the MDT

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working as a qualified clinical/counselling psychologist or highly specialist psychotherapist in the NHS

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Highly specialised knowledge of mental health issues, including trauma

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Highly developed skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups
